A new Dollar General in Deptford-Westville on Route 47 is looking to open mid-March, according to a sign on the front door.
The new location seems have been given an upgraded exterior look which includes additional style features including the front “pyramid” roof accent, faux windows and awnings.
There are a variety of job listings for the new location including Sales Associate, Lead Sales Associate, Assistant Store Manager, and even the Store Manager.
While the new store actually does reside in Deptford and was approved by the Deptford Planning Board, Dollar General is calling this their Westville store. Honestly that’s what most people think this area Is anyway!
The location on Rt 47 is very close to exit 25 interchange of Rt 295.
It sits in front of the Chestnut Lane Apartments, and is directly next to the Puff-and-Go convenience store which has that distinctive “7-11” style to it.
Across the street from the new Dollar General is the large Victory Church complex.

This store is an all new construction building, developed on a lot which was previously wooded.
The building is 10,640 square feet, which is an exact match in size to the recently opened stores in Washington Township and Runnemede. Although this Deptford store does have a much nicer design to it.
In my visit this week, the property appears fully developed… but glancing through the front door it looks like they still need to complete loading up the store inventory.
42Freeway first brought news of this project back in October of 2021, and then almost a year later in September 2022 I wrote again when the land was cleared signifying the start of the development.
Dollar General in Deptford-Westville: Good Location?
While some disagreed with me in Facebook comments my prior post, I feel overall it’s a good location for the store.
First off, Dollar General is not a dollar store and people are regularly confused with that.
They are a general merchandise store offering products for home, garden, pantry and more… reasonably priced but again definitely not a dollar store.
I always describe it as a product selection similar to the large pharmacies, without the pharmaceuticals.
Having lived very close to this area in Bellmawr I know very well that there just aren’t a lot of options in that immediate area to pick up small items that you would need around the house.
The Brooklawn ShopRite and Rite Aid are a 10-15 minutes away… if the Brooklawn Circles aren’t flooded! (FB: IsTheBrooklawnCircleFlooded)
If you look at their Dollar General locations on a map, there is a circle of stores in the densely populated suburban communities around Westville, Brooklawn and Bellmawr’s Crescent Park area… but then nothing in the center where this Westville location is opening.
Plus this location will also offer easy access to Rt 295, and Inverness and Chestnut Lane apartments are close by.
The hand-written sign on the front door glass says “Expected Opening March 17th. Friday” which would be St Patrick’s Day. May the new store have good luck!
