Wawa: Blackwood-Clementon Tank Install, plus Blackwood BHP Remodel Closing For A Month

Gloucester Township continues to be a favorite home for Wawa with two new stores under construction, and now an existing location will close for one month starting March 20th, for a store remodel.

Today we’re sharing updates on two of the Wawa locations.

On Blackwood-Clementon road, contractors this week began installing the gas tanks for the upcoming store. This is a significant sign of development on a site that’s been quiet for the last few months.

Over on the Black Horse Pike in Blackwood, that Wawa store across from Skeeter’s will be closing March 20th for one month so that Wawa can remodel the store. (Store #998, 800 North Blackhorse Pike Blackwood, NJ 08012)

The Gloucester Township Wawa on the Black Horse Pike (Across from Skeeter’s Bar) will close temporarily on March 20th to be remodeled. The project is expected to take one month.

Wawa Blackwood-Clementon Rd. Construction

One of two new wawa stores under construction ion Gloucester Township is on Blackwood-Clementon Rd. at the former site of the Entenmann’s store distribution facility.

We first brought news of the plans back in June of 2021, and a year later the buildings on the property were demolished.

Work continued at the site to develop the initial site preparation work which included underground water management systems including the surface exposed “storm grates” which will be in the parking lots..

But since that time the property has sat for several months with no activity.

A new Wawa being constructed on Blackwood-Clementon Rd in Gloucester Twp, with the installation of the underground fuel tanks. The site had sat untouched for many months.

This week construction workers arrived on site to install the underground gas tanks, which of course require a hole to be dug for their placement!

In my visit Monday the workers were using heavy equipment to dig the hole and move dirt off the site.

In a far corner of the site were three red and large pill-shaped cylindrical tanks. waiting to be installed.

Xerxes underground fuel tanks wait to be installed in a new Wawa being developed on Blackwood-Clementon Rd in Gloucester Township.

Wawa uses a gas tank system developed by Xerxes.

Rach tank is made out of fiberglass so they resist corrosion which will give them an extended life of many decades.

The tanks are designed as structurally cylindrical with an integral rib construction making them very strong.

The walls of tanks are also double walled and include integrated monitoring systems.

Wawa utilizes different contractors for different phases of the projects. This is a great sign of movement on the Wawa property, and while I fully expect we see the core building and gas canopies going up soon… I do not have timeline estimates.

Wawa Blackwood on the Black Horse Pike

I don’t have much to say on this store’s remodel other than I have confirmed with Wawa directly that on March 20th the Wawa at 800 N Black Horse Pike Blackwood will be temporarily closing so they can remodel the store.

A projected reopening date is set for April 21st.

I really don’t know a lot of details regarding what to expect with this remodel.

Wawa maintains a section of their website to describe the general new design implementations, and also listing stores that are under remodel.

That store remodel list is empty at this time but again I did confirm this with Wawa directly.

The Gloucester Township Wawa on the Black Horse Pike (Across from Skeeter’s Bar) will close temporarily on March 20th to be remodeled. The project is expected to take one month.

The descriptive text provided on the website goes back to 2018 and it just presents somewhat of a generalized overview of what to expect from a remodel.

Wawa is recommending during this time that customers visit the store over by the Camden County College at 1301 Little Gloucester Rd.
