Less than 24 hours ago we learned that Atco Dragway abruptly and immediately closed. Already today the massive 5,000 seat grandstand is listed for sale online, with a price of $390,000.
And before the rumor mill starts, while the grandstand is listed for sale at a Fazzio company website, the local company did NOT purchase the property. I spoke directly to a Fazio representative who tells me they are only operating as a broker for selling the grandstand… which is the Surplus division’s core functionality.
A social media listing for the the grandstand has been updated to say:
*** We (Fazzio) did not buy the track, we are selling the bleachers for the owner***

While we don’t know yet who the buyer of the full property is, sadly the immediate sale of the 63 year old dragway’s grandstand should stop all thoughts of the property continuing as a dragway under new ownership.
It appears that drag racing at Atco is 100% done for good.
Atco Dragway Grandstand For Sale
The listing at Fazzio Surplus puts the new replacement value at $2.5 million installed, but you can buy it for $390,000.
Of course the cost of dismantling and transporting out of the former dragway, would be the buyer’s responsibility (check with Fazzio Surplus to confirm details)
This sale offering is for the complete grandstand from Atco Dragway, Including both sections which were installed in 1998 and 2007.
The original 1998 section includes 3,076 seats which are 18 inches wide. 294 feet and 19 rows.
The newer 2007 section consists of 1,459 seats, consisting of 1398 seats at 18 inches, as well as a variety of more specialized seats including wheelchair spaces, tower seats, 21 suite box seats and an elevator for wheelchair access.
The grandstand was developed by Southern Bleacher Company, and Fazio surplus has all of the original plans which would likely help a buyer in the dismantling and reinstallation of the grandstands in another location.
The listing goes on to say that the buyer must remove the grandstands properly.
Lastly they will consider partial sales of the grandstand.
42Freeway was given permission to use some of the sale listing photos in this article, and we could see that this sale includes the enclosed glass fronts suites, which includes a section which appears to have a rooftop area also.

Effective immediately: Atco Dragway is permanently closed. We will not be open from this point on. The remainder of our schedule for 2023 will be canceled.

42Freeway covered the story yesterday, but at this point no one has any idea who the new buyer is… and what the new usage of the property is intended to be.
Three years ago it was intended to be purchased and converted into an auto storage lot and internet sales location, but it seems Waterford Township denied those plans.
We’ll update readers as we learn more.
