Route 42 North New Bellmawr Exit 14 Location Starts Wednesday Morning

Route 42 North New Bellmawr Exit 14 Location Starts Wednesday Morning
Reading Time: 4 minutes

For drivers exiting Route 42 North at Bellmawr (exit 14), it relocates Wednesday morning to it’s new location about 600 feet sooner than what you are used to.

The former exit of 42 North to Bellmawr (at Sunoco) will be closed tomorrow morning.

It is expected that this change will be completed by 6am tomorrow Wednesday morning.

This new exit is also for entering 42 North at Bellmawr. You must drive down Beningo Blvd a short distance and take this new exit.

Overnight tonight there will be some temporary lane shifts for 42 North approaching this area as construction crews complete the final work to remove barriers and adjust the painted stripes.

New Route 42 North Exit 14 location viewed from the BELLMAWR side. This shows Benigno Blvd (Industrial Park road) and the new Traffic Signal. This exit becomes “live” on July 19, 2022 at 6am.

If you are exiting to Bellmawr local roads at Exit 14, you’ll have to start moving over much sooner to the right. Pay attention if you use that exit as you could miss it!

Traffic exiting 42 North will curve underneath the new Missing Moves ramp and meet Benigno Boulevard in the Industrial Park at a “T”

A new traffic signal is located at this intersection, but it is not clear to me if it will be active tomorrow.

From this new exit, you can go left towards Sunoco and Creek Rd, or make a right into the Industrial park towards the New Jersey Turnpike exit 3.

Drone Images presented in this post were taken ONE WEEK AGO. Things have since been cleaned up.

The full NJDOT press release is below as well as a link to my most recent Missing Moves project update back in May.

Missing Moves – Making All the Shots

I know a few dozen on Facebook will comment how long the project is taking and that it will be an eternity before it is completed.

But Missing Moves is NOT THAT project!

Missing Moves has only been under construction a year or slightly more and the construction team at South State Inc are really kicking ass on it.

Missing Moves is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, just 18 months away.

The progress is amazing and you know what that means… another drone update to come! But I’ll keep it short.

The NJDOT Description of Missing Moves is

The $180 million federally-funded project will build new ramps connecting Route 42 northbound to I-295 southbound, and I-295 northbound to Route 42 southbound in order to allow for the direct movement of traffic between the two roadways. These are commonly known as the “missing moves.” The project will also include the demolition and reconstruction of the Creek Road Bridge over I-295 between Route 42 and Almonesson Road. The majority of the project will be built off of the roadways and will have minimal impact on traffic on Route 42 and I-295.  The project is expected to be completed in late 2023

I am going to keep this post short as I want to get this online fast. But I’ll be checking out the new exit early tomorrow morning!

For the Missing Moves project the core overhead roadway steel support systems look almost completely installed. As mentioned in the update post from May (linked below) a center column will need to be added in the center of Route 42.

We believe this exit change will position the contractor to start the center support column, and then install the Missing Moves roadway over Route 42.

42Freeway Missing Moves May Update: Article and Video

For 42Freeway’s latest on the Missing Moves project, here is my post and video from May 2022.

It covers this part of the project and shows updates for all aspects.

Your choice… read the long post, watch the long video.. or if you truly are a glutton for punishment, go through both!

NJDOT Press Release

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced lane closures on Route 42 northbound tonight in anticipation of opening the newly constructed Exit 14 ramps tomorrow morning, as the I-295/Route 42 Missing Moves project advances in Bellmawr and Runnemede, Camden County.

Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, July 19, until 6 a.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, July 20, NJDOT’s contractor, South State Inc., is scheduled to close two lanes on Route 42 northbound between the Route 42 Bridge over the New Jersey Turnpike and Exit 14 to CR 753/Creek Road/Bellmawr to remove construction barrier and restripe the roadway. There may be temporary traffic stoppages overnight. At least two lanes of traffic will be maintained. The closures are necessary to shift Route 42 northbound traffic to the right, back into its original configuration.

By 6 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, July 20, the newly constructed Exit 14 ramps to and from Benigno Avenue will be opened. The new Exit 14 interchange is located just before the old Exit 14 interchange between Route 42 northbound and Leaf Avenue. Upon opening the Exit 14 ramps to and from Benigno Avenue, the existing Exit 14 ramps to and from Leaf Avenue will be permanently closed.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2023.
