Santucci’s Pizza is planning a new location in Deptford NJ, taking over a building in a prime location in the popular commercial district around the Deptford Mall.
News of this new location comes from What Now Philadelphia, who has had a chance to speak with Deptford resident John Dingler on the plans for the new location.
John and his business partner Steve Bombaro are also planning on opening a location in Cherry Hill this year, in The Shoppes at Holly Ravine Plaza on Springdale Rd. News of this appears have first been reported by NJ101.5 in April, who noticed a new Instagram account for the Cherry Hill location.
Santucci’s Pizza
If you’re unfamiliar with Santucci’s Pizza, they are famous in the Philadelphia area for their deliciously unique take on the classic pizza pie!
First off, their pizza is square and cut into rows of rectangular slices! But it’s not thick like a “Sicilian pie”, and at the same time not as thin as a traditional round pizza crust.
So that’s honestly not too different… but the big twist on Santucci’s pizza is that it’s prepared upside down! And what I mean by that is, the cheese goes on the crust first and then the sauce is put on top!
Santucci’s uses all of the best ingredients and their pizza sauce is truly delicious… so I think their switch on the pizza preparation actually brings out more of the delicious sauce flavor out. Which definitely isn’t a bad thing.
Over the years the menu has grown to include much more than pizza, offering a full variety of sandwiches including amazing cheesesteaks and Italian hoagies.
Several delicious chicken cutlet sandwiches are on the menu and it seems burgers are also a big customer favorite at Santucci’s!
They round out the menu with wings, salads, stromboli… the Washington Township location which I covered at their opening is now even showing breakfast sandwiches on their menu.
And in offering a true South Philly experience throughout all of the Philadelphia metro region including South Jersey, Santucci’s even offers delicious cannoli for dessert!
Santucci’s Pizza – Deptford
The upcoming Deptford location for Santucci’s Pizza is at the busy corner of Almonesson Road and Clements Bridge Road.
It’s a freestanding building which for many decades was home to a Pearl Vision Eyeglass Center. That location was independently owned and operated, and the owners recently retired and put the property up for sale/lease.
The intersection corner that the building sits on is more likely known as where AMC Deptford Movie Theater is with Adelphia’s Restaurant not too far away. Immediately next to the upcoming Deptford Santucci’s is the Pet Check Veterinarian Hospital.
Both the upcoming Santucci’s and PetCheck are accessible from both Clements Bridge Road and Almonesson Road (there is a side entrance from Almonesson)
I do not have a timeline on the opening of the location but What’s Now Philly lists “Fall” as the anticipated opening date.
The building appears to be in great shape and honestly I think it’s going to make a perfect pizza restaurant… But it’s going to take a full remodeling effort to convert it from an eyeglass manufacturer and retailer, into a full restaurant!
