Sakura Sushi & Hibachi Opens in Bellmawr

Sakura Sushi & Hibachi opens in Bellmawr on Thursday 9/16! The new restaurant is located on Browning Road, in a modern building which most recently housed Sal & Pat’s Pizzeria. The new restaurant is located in the center of town close to the Bell Road intersection.

We believe this is the same family that operates other Sakura restaurants including one in Oaklyn.

42Freeway stopped in on July 15th and spoke briefly with the owners. At the time the exterior signage was up, but inside they were in the middle of construction.

One of the owners explained to me at that time they were having difficulties getting deliveries of their new kitchen equipment, due to current supply-chain issues! They originally were planning on opening in August.

Note: this is not the first time we’ve heard that issue regarding equipment availability impacting new restaurants. I have a post coming this week on another new eatery that is still in a waiting mode!

The announcement of the Sakura Bellmawr Grand Opening was posted on Facebook Town Group “The Neighbors of Bellmawr“. It seems Bellmawr is excited to have a Japanese sushi and hibachi restaurant in town, as the post has been very popular with over 140 likes!

And now that we are posting on 42Freeway also… well they may be a little surprised by the early response that the get! Remember this location is all new to them, they probably aren’t staffed for a mad Opening Day rush… so if you try them soon just be patient with them, or maybe wait a few days before putting in an order.

We believe there will be indoor seating. When I stopped in over the summer they were still in the remodeling mode. I’ll try to stop there tomorrow and see the final product, and update the post.

The Menu

Let’s call out one thing first… hibachi is a style of cooking and that doesn’t mean there are those large “sit around the metal hot plate countertop” table. While they were still working on construction 2 months ago, I don’t expect to see the full hibachi tables…

but you can get the delicious hibachi meals at a price much cheaper than Benihana!

Their website lists an online menu and ordering system, and it highlights Japanese dishes in several categories; Teppanyaki Noodles, Hibachi, Teriyaki, Rice Bowls, Sushi/Sashimi Rolls, and full Sushi entrees.

Since we were talking about Hibachi.. the Hibachi Chicken meal is only $11.95 and it includes Japanese fried rice and vegetable!

Jumbo Shrimp Hibachi is just slightly more at $12.50!

Teriyaki meals are also priced similarily!

Sushi – Traditional Rolls

In the Sushi/Sashimi category, the rolls are priced at $4 to $5.75.

If you’ve never tried sushi before and have been afraid to give it a shot (or just don’t know what to order)… I would suggest a Philly Roll which is smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber. The cream cheese helps ease a new sushi eater into the delicacies. And it is priced at $5.75

Rolls include Alaska, Avacado, California, Futo Maki, Eel Avacado, Salmon, Sweet Potato, Spicy Tuna… wait a minute. You really need to check the menu because they list THIRTY different sushi rolls!

In the Sushi/Sashimi category the are offering Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp, Eel, Yellowtail and MORE!

Then you really need to take a look at “Sakura Special Rolls” where it seems they have come up with their own flavors of delicious sushi, including the Godzilla Roll, Dynamite Roll and Black Dragon.

It’s just easier to check out their menu online. Ha!
