A new Coach Outlet store opens this Friday October 13th at 10am, at the Gloucester Premium Outlets. This is a permanent store and will be located directly next to the Michael Kors store.
For shoppers of Coach products, this new Blackwood location will likely prove to be very popular as two other area Coach stores have closed, in the Deptford and Cherry Hill Malls. Other South Jersey Coach locations are in Marlton and Atlantic City.
I would expect that Coach shoppers from Philadelphia will find it most convenient to “drive over the bridge” to shop in Gloucester Township.
Which really helps define what a Premium Outlets shopping center is… while they do attract shoppers in the immediate area, it’s more about being a destination shopping experience where customers will drive from longer distances to find the brands and bargains they are looking for.
I also recently caught up with the management team for the Gloucester Premium Outlets who gave me a tour of many of the exciting things happening at the center… with a variety of new stores open, more coming, plus completed expansions from long standing tenants.
As a sign of the success of the Outlets in Blackwood NJ; Adidas and Old Navy both recently expanded, and Nike completed a full store remodel.
Coach Outlet – Luxury Handbags and More
Even if you’re not overly familiar with Coach, you’ve likely heard of them associated with their signature leather handbags. While I personally could not pick one out, I know I’ve heard more than a few conversations of women discussing their latest Coach bag.
And while the leather handbags are a premier item for the brand, they also offer luggage and accessories, as well as ready to wear clothing and shoes.
I did not have a chance to check out the new Gloucester Premium Outlets store.. so I am not 100% clear on what the product mix will be for the new store.
Coach is part of a New York Stock Exchange publicly traded company called Tapestry, which also includes brands Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman.
Coach is clearly the largest of the three brands, achieving a most recent fiscal yearly revenue of almost $5 billion for the Coach brand alone!
As of this past summer, Coach has 939 stores with 330 of them located in the USA.
As mentioned the new store is located in the Gloucester Premium Outlets next to Michael Kors. On the other side of Coach is a new Lacoste, and in that same “intersection” area are Brooks Brothers, Arie, Nautica, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, J.Crew and more.
It’s really a jam-packed area of excellent retailers!
Gloucester Premium Outlets – 8 Years!
The Gloucester Premium Outlets are located in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township.
The 55 acre outlet property is bordered on the east by the highly traveled Route 42 roadway, and on the left to the more local but also well traveled Black Horse Pike.
The Gloucester Premium Outlets feature over 90 stores in an open walkway setting. The store mix includes a variety of higher end stores, as well as a good balance of other retailers at different price points.
The outlets opened over eight years ago… which I had to double check that because I initially found out hard to believe. But, yes the grand opening ceremony was held in August of 2015… which is a year after I started the 42Freeway.com website!
Plus since that time the extended retail property has added the large Dave and Buster’s entertainment restaurant building which opened in November of 2020!
Another aspect you may find surprising about the Outlets, is while the project initially had a “step-up” five year tax abatement (which ended several years ago), according to New Jersey State records the outlets property and buildings are assessed at $68 million… and they paid $2.8 million in property taxes!
They are likely the largest taxpayer in Gloucester Township, and likely rank very high for the entire county.
So not only have the outlets brought a destination shopping experience to Gloucester Township, they are contributing significantly to the town for the municipal and school district budgets, without adding any new residential units!
The “Premium” in the outlets name really does stand up, as along with Coach and Michael Kors… the Gloucester Premium Outlets offers Calvin Klein, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Polo Ralph Lauren, US polo, Vera Bradley, Ugg, Tommy Hilfiger and more.
Plus there are an additional large variety of stores at all price points including Levis, Hanes, The Gap and others.
Overall the shopping center has proven to be very successful so for Simon properties and the community.
Well I’m not going to hide the fact that just like any other large shopping mall in the United States in 2023, there are some vacant units at the outlets, but overall the Gloucester Premium Outlets have a wide variety of top name tenants… many who have been there for several years and have found so much success in Gloucester Township that they’ve added on to their stores or remodeled.
Actually, I am amazed (and kick myself) that I haven’t done a good enough job keeping up with all of the new stores and changes that have happened over recent years. I only live 2 miles away!
As a few examples from the last 18 months or so… likely missing many:
Expanded
- Adidas: recently relocated to a larger space, going from 6,000 to 9,000 sq ft
- Nike: full story model featuring a completely new store concept called Nike Unite, which is targeted at improving the customer shopping experience.
- Old Navy: expanded the store size which enabled them to widen aisles within the store for a better customer shopping experience
New
- US Polo: a new store which is the only one in South Jersey
- Lacoste : Recently opened.
- It’s All Leggings: Largest retail chain for leggings in the USA.
- Gertrude Hawk Chocolates: signed on for a temporary lease last holiday season and was so happy with the sales… they extended the lease to make it a permanent location

- Ralph Lauren Polo (2020)
Coming Soon

I will be stopping back at “the outlets” to check in on some of the newer stores, as well as to keep tabs on any new stores or changes.
