According to Michael Klein at the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Chef for the Saddlehill Farmhouse Kitchen is Cherry Hill born Daniel Stern.  Stern’s fine dining resume includes top Philadelphia restaurants Le Bec Finn, R2L and more. (Inquirer Article)

Also located inside the tasting room is the Farmhouse Market which will sell a variety of Saddlehill products as well as other craft and gift items including scented candles. The candles are made on site and inspired by their delicious wines and horses.

And of course the main feature of the winery… is the wine itself!   Saddlehill’s Winemaker Peter Szerdahelyi started his craft in the Napa Valley, and then later made his way east to Mazza vineyards in Pennsylvania before finding his home at Saddlehill.

Clearly Saddlehill Winery is positioned to be a top hot destination for South Jersey residents and beyond, with their top quality wines, food, and facilities.

But then also consider the location… in the middle of a well populated area where 70 acres of land is just not easy to acquire. Typically wineries have to located farther away from “civilization” to have enough land for vineyards… so Saddlehill’s location should also be a big boost to it’s certain popularity.

So yeah… make those reservations!

Saddlehill Winery – History and Experience

42Freeway first covered the new winery almost a year ago, and even to today much of the inside décor and details are still “under wraps”.

Well, the social media team has been doing a great job of posting a teaser photos and videos on Facebook to get people excited, but it seems the actual full experience and visuals of the tasting room and farmhouse kitchen won’t be publicly revealed until the Wednesday Grand Opening ceremony, which will be attended by State and Local officials.

42Freeway readers know I love to put the extra effort in into getting a preview look ahead of an opening so that I could share that with readers.   Owner Bill Green has just been awesome to me in responding to my emails, but seems he wasn’t giving in to my request to stop in ahead of the opening… which I fully respect!

So I do have some exterior images to share here but I haven’t a chance to tour the inside of the facility yet. That will soon change!

Saddlehill Winery Voorhees – Horse Track

Speaking of Mr. Green, he and his wife Amy purchased the property back in March of 2021, which was previously protected for agricultural/farm uses.

The history of the property goes back 250 years when George Washington gave his personal guard, Lieutenant John Stafford the almost 70 acre parcel.

Originally used for agricultural purposes, in more modern times raising and training racing horses and the growing of hay became a key use for the property.

With concerns of land developing taking over the property, in 2003 a Land Trust paid $20 million for the land development rights… preserving the property forever as farm use.

It seems the Green’s initial interest was more towards maintaining and developing the horse farm on the protected property.

But realizing that wineries fit into the guidelines of the protected farmland restrictions, the couple soon started the process of creating the Saddlehill winery.

Once their mind was made-up to also include a winery on the property, they really dove into the development and invested significant capital into the White Horse Road property.

While many other wineries and breweries seem to start off small and and grow into a larger facility… the Greens have positioned themselves so that on Day-One of the opening, they have a large and mature vineyard with significant tasting room, restaurant/kitchen and infrastructure already in place!
