Last week Liscio’s Bakery gained Glassboro approval to convert the town’s closed Save-A-Lot grocery building on Delsea Drive into a Liscio’s retail Bakery and Deli.
The project still requires additional approvals as Delsea Drive is a State highway, and changes to driveway road access would require NJDDOT approval.
Liscio’s previously had a retail outlet in Glassboro but they had to close that location when the building was sold, and the new owner had other plans for the property.
Their retail stores are much more than just “baked rolls”. They offer a full bakery offering of cookies, cakes and other delicious treats.
And they offer pizzas and hoagies… with many regularly including Liscio’s hoagies in their personal “Best Hoagies in South Jersey” lists! They currently have two locations in Washington Twp (Egg Harbor Rd and Route 42)
Liscio’s of course has their main large bakery facility on Ellis St. in Glassboro, which is currently undergoing an expansion.
So I’ve known about the new planned Liscio’s retail store for months!
I have the site plans from a Planning Office visit weeks ago, drone images from several visits, and even shared emails with co-owner Chad Vilotti almost two months ago… but I was being a good guy to the business and holding off on posting.
My thought was I would get the story out after attending the planning board meeting (which was last week), But life got busy for me last week and I missed the meeting!
So this morning my friends at the Courier-Post beat me to getting this story online! It’s an excellent article and you can read it at this link. (Courier-Post)
Liscio’s Retail Store in Glassboro
The Liscio’s bakery retail store for Glassboro is planned to take over the Save-A-Lot discount grocery store which sits in a portion of the wedge-shaped property formed by Delsea Dr. and N Main St. A cemetary sits directly behind the Liscio’s building.
An Advance Auto Parts store takes over a second portion of the connected building.
in the extended wedged property, Matt Blatt Mitsubishi sits in the far tight corner, and between the dealership and the upcoming bakery is a parcel of land which was recently approved for a Chick-fil-A restaurant. That center piece of property was previously the Glassboro Bowling alley.
The site plans for the new Liscio’s project shows that parking lot and driveway movements will be upgraded and reconfigured.
The customer parking will extend around the side of the building where handicap spots will be allocated, with direct walkway access to the front door.
The plans also indicate four electric vehicle charging stations are to be positioned along N Main St.
The larger parking lot section will be reconfigured with additional divider spaces, and a more defined cross drive connecting between Delsea and N. Maun will be created between the bakery’s parking area and the upcoming Chick-fil-A. It seems both businesses will share those two access points.
The Courier-Post coverage from the Planning meeting states that around 5,000 square feet of the former grocery building will be used for the retail store, and the remainder of the almost 20,000 square foot building will be used for baking and storage, with products being shipped to other stores
