Floor & Decor Turnersville Buildout Begins.  Large 65,000sf Retail Store.  Summertime Opening?
Reading Time: 3 minutes

A new large Floor & Decor store has started construction in Washington Township on the Black Horse Pike, located in the “Esporta Fitness” Washington Plaza shopping center.

If you’re unfamiliar with Floor & Decor they offer a broad selection of in-stock tile, wood, stone, related tools and flooring accessories… At everyday low prices.

This will be a large store, with the Turnersville location being the same size as the Acme supermarket in town! Consider that the Floor & Decor product selection is literally just focused on flooring and tile…  A supermarket of flooring and tile!

The unit was previously home to a Burlington store which relocated to a smaller unit further down The Pike.

The building they are taking over was originally developed as a Caldor retail store (opened in1990), and the full building segment is slightly larger than the Floor & Decor space… so another 25,000 square feet of the building is available for lease on the left side of the building (inner corner).

42Freeway first wrote about the plans for the new flooring store back in February of this year as they were heading to the planning board for approval for small changes to the building and parking. Those plans were subsequently approved.

While an opening date isn’t formally announced, the Washington Township Business Buzz Facebook page reported six weeks ago that Floor & Decor are looking to open this summer…  which seems reasonable given that construction has already started and the buildout is more about modifications than all new construction.

While I was unable to attend the planning meeting earlier in the year, their public notice listed several modifications including upgrades to the entrance, repainting of the facade, installation of new wall mounted light fixtures and signage.

For the most part the plans for floor and decor are a perfect match for the zoning and use of the building… but typically things like signage or changing parking lot stalls requires a review from the Planning Board.

The closest location is in Moorestown NJ.

Floor & Decor – Growth Mode

Floor & Decor must be doing something right, amidst a tough retail climate.

They are #5 on Yelp’s list of most loved brands and made it onto Fortune’s list of 100 fastest growing companies.  Founded in 2000 they now have over 200 stores with 2023 revenue of over $4 billion.

And they seem to be continuing that growth trend with several stores opened or in place in New Jersey, including Moorestown, Springfield, Avenel, Princeton and Ocean Township.

For the Turnersville location, the location in the Washington Plaza shopping center sits at the start of the Washington Township segment of the Black Horse Pike.   TGI Friday’s restaurant sits at the front of the shopping center along the roadway, and Esporta Fitness is another signature tenant.

This area of the Black Horse Pike is also home to other signature retailers such as AtHome, Kohl’s, 5 Below and more.

Very recently the New Jersey Department of Transportation started a multiple year effort to rebuild the Black Horse Pike through Washington Twp. Amongst the new features of the rebuild are upgrades to 10 intersections along Route 42, which will include adaptive/synchronized traffic signals which are intended to improve traffic flow through the area… and further spur additional commercial development in the district.
