Last month the Deptford Mall introduced a new expanded Foot Locker “Superstore”, and earlier in the fall a new Eastern Mountain Sports location opened.
Factor in the successful newer Dick’s Sporting Goods store, and the Deptford Mall has become a one-stop-shop for all your athletic and outdoor sporting needs!
Expanded Foot Locker
Last month Foot Locker opened a sneaker and sports apparel superstore in the Deptford Mall, in the first floor of the the Center Court area.
The all new build out nearly quadruples the amount of space that Foot Locker occupied in the mall, allowing them to support Kids Foot Locker, Foot Locker and and expanded line of sports apparel… all within one space.
While industry experts say the retailer’s sales are still mostly concentrated on footwear, the Deptford Mall store is positioned to significantly increase sales of sports apparel… offering T-shirts, hoodies, cargo pants, winter jackets and more.
The new store is has taken over several former retail spaces and combined them into one larger store.
The most notable of those former stores was the Disney Store, which had then become home to Easy Pickins. Easy Pickins is still open in the mall, but relocated closer to the Round One arcade on the second floor.
This Foot Locker investment seems to be a statement of confidence for the Deptford Mall, as earlier this year Foot Locker stated they would be closing 400 stores over the next three years, particularly in underperforming mall locations.
So seeing them make a significant investment in the Deptford Mall and increasing the size of the store… creates a very positive narrative for the mall’s success.
The buildout for the new Deptford Mall Foot Locker was completed by Deptford’s Connor Construction, who were extra excited to be able to complete a project in their home town.
Inside, the store carries a modern industrial style with high ceilings featuring exposed piping and duct work.
Bright drop lighting fills the space, highlighting they sneakers, sports apparel and more.
The location is a prime spot in the mall, with an entrance leading directly into the center court area, and then extending down the center “wing” towards JCPenneys… where almost every Mall shopper passes through to get to Starbucks, the food court, or just moving about the mall.
Eastern Mountain Sports
Eastern Mountain Sports is a premier outdoors retailer focused on offering reliable and affordable gear to nature enthusiasts of all ages. Key brands include The North Face, Oboz, Thule and Columbia.
The newer Deptford store showcases an impressive selection of top outdoor brands, including hiking and camping gear, climbing equipment, running shoes, outdoor clothing, and much more.
They are originally based out of Connecticut and have 20 locations all within the Northeast.
The Deptford Mall location is located on the first floor of the mall, near Boscov’s. Many will remember the unit as being home to Modell’s Sporting Goods.
Inside the Eastern Mountain Sports store carries a rustic outdoorsy vibe, with a raw timber style floor and darker wood wall accents.
The product mix leans most heavily towards outdoor apparel, as well as hiking backpacks, and a variety of camping and other smaller outdoor gear.
Eastern Mountain Sports has carried the outdoorsman lifestyle as it’s core principals since it was founded in 1967. Two Massachusetts rock climbers became unhappy with the selection of rock climbing equipment they found in stores, and started selling their own carefully chosen products.
