A former Wells Fargo bank branch at Church Road and Maple Avenue in Mount Laurel could become a Dunkin’ restaurant and coffee shop.
The proposal would convert the bank building into a Dunkin’ and repurpose its teller drive-through for coffee and food orders. The project is scheduled to go before the Mount Laurel Zoning Board on October 7 at 6 p.m. The applicant needs zoning approval because a coffee shop and restaurant is not a permitted use for the property.
Locals will note there is a Dunkin already very close to this location… opposite side of the intersection actually ! While the notice doesn’t give specifics, likely they are looking at the bank property to gain a drive-thru

It’s a bank building that looks particularly well suited to this kind of conversion. The structure is relatively small, almost resembling a ranch-style home in size, and already has a drive-through. There’s also an existing parking area that curves around the front of the building. Of course, whether the site works for a Dunkin’ is one of the questions the board will consider.
The location is interesting, too. It isn’t directly on Route 73 or another major regional road. Instead, it sits near the convergence of three busy local roads: Church Road, Green Tree Road and Maple Avenue.

That intersection already has a mix of businesses. Crispin Square Shopping Center is across the street, while a 7-Eleven and other storefronts are a short distance up the road. There’s also a smaller, classic Wawa nearby, along with other commercial buildings. Residential neighborhoods surround the area, and Ramblewood Country Club is not far away.
For a Dunkin’, that means a potential customer base of nearby residents and people traveling among several local neighborhoods and shopping areas. It would be a different setting from a location right on a major highway, but one with plenty of activity close by.

The proposal remains subject to the zoning board hearing and any required approvals. As with any scheduled land-use hearing, the October 7 date could also be postponed, so anyone planning to attend should check the township’s meeting schedule beforehand.
Adaptive Reuse of Former Bank Buildings
With the reduction of retail bank branches this is another example of innovative reuse of the typically well located buildings. A Route 70 former Fulton Bank was also approved to be converted into a Dunkin.
Washington Township for example is expected to see a Wendy’s restaurant developed in a TD Bank building, and a former Wells Fargo near the Washington Township High School is expected to become a Paris Baguette.
