The Joe’s Crab Shack restaurant in Deptford New Jersey will close its doors on May 26th, 2024.
This news comes from a 42Freeway investigation, which was confirmed today by Joe’s Crab Shack COO Terry Turney.
Due to a natural lease expiration, Joe’s Crab Shack located at 2000 Clements Bridge Road in Deptford, NJ will close its doors on May 26, 2024.

The same terminology was used when the Clifton NJ location closed in December (NJ.com).
Joe’s Crab Shack is currently part of the Landry’s family of restaurants, and opened in the Deptford Landing Shopping Center on Clements Bridge Road, in April of 2013.
The large restaurant has a full liquor license and can accommodate 300 diners. Additionally it offers an outdoor dining area.
Earlier this month the Deptford Landing shopping center owner Wharton Realty Group put up a public “building for lease” advertisement at leading Commercial Real Estate site Loopnet, identifying the building as Joe’s Crab Shack (along with photos) and describing it as 7,000 square feet of four-star retail space.
I stopped at the restaurant yesterday ahead of the opening to chat with one store manager, who was not aware at the time of any immediate operating changes in the facility.
I then reached out to senior management who responded this afternoon. I would imagine that staff was informed this morning.
There is no silver lining to a business closing and employees potentially losing their jobs.
That being said this is a high quality building in a prime location overflowing with retail shoppers, and just my opinion… I would think the property receives a lot of attention from others in the hospitality industry looking to expand into new locations.
Deptford was the last New Jersey location for the seafood restaurant. On December 31st of 2023, they closed their Clifton location.
Joe’s over the years had closed locations in Eatontown, South Plainfield, Lawrenceville, Brick, Clifton and Edgewater.
Joe’s Crab Shack has been experiencing a decrease in the number of locations across the country since reaching a high of around 140 locations ten years ago.
Today the website shows 30 locations (including Deptford). A 2021 article at Mashed.com states that at the time (three years ago) they had 57 locations.
