Innovative Indoor Go-Kart Track With Interactive Gaming Elements Proposed for Pennsauken

An innovative indoor electric go-kart facility featuring interactive gaming elements is being proposed for Pennsauken Township, and if the concept follows what the same company developed in Sydney, Australia, this could be something unlike anything currently offered in South Jersey—or possibly anywhere else in the United States.

The proposed location is 2309 Clement Avenue, about a block off Route 130/Crescent Boulevard and close to the Super Wawa.

A prominent nearby landmark is the new Pennsauken Animal Hospital and Urgent Care, which stands tall along Route 130 at the Clement Avenue intersection. The proposed go-kart facility would be located roughly two blocks behind the animal hospital.

The project is scheduled to appear before the Pennsauken Township Zoning Board on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the public meeting room at the Pennsauken Township Municipal Building.

The company proposing the Pennsauken project is the same company that developed Karts District which opens this fall in Sydney, Australia. That facility combines real electric go-karts and an indoor arena track with elaborate arcade-style theming and interactive video technology. (Web Article)

This direct connection to the Sydney attraction provides a strong indication of what could be planned for Pennsauken, although the exact features of the local facility have not yet been fully detailed.

Honestly, this is something I have never seen before.

Images and videos depicting the Sydney facility show racers operating actual electric go-karts through a colorful indoor course featuring decorative elements, lighting effects and video game-style environments.

The biggest twist is that the racers appear to wear virtual reality headsets while driving the real electric vehicles.

The idea seems to place the human racer directly inside an interactive video game. It is almost as if someone could walk through their television screen and enter a real-life version of Mario Kart—although, of course, this is not affiliated with Nintendo or the Mario Kart brand.

So, am I taking a big leap by suggesting that the Sydney Karts District concept is what could be coming to Pennsauken? (Fever News Room – Karts District Sydney)

Well first off the company behind this proposal is Fever, who develops immersive and interactive shows in North America including Philadelphia. Those “candlelight concerts” filling your social media feeds… the same company.

The available information does not explicitly confirm that the Pennsauken facility will be an exact duplicate of the Australian attraction. But with the same company behind both projects, there is clearly a meaningful connection and good reason to look at Sydney for clues about what may be planned here.

…which is a scheduled, indoor technology-driven entertainment attraction that combines electric go-karts and interactive gaming for a family oriented recreational experience including, a waiting lounge, concession stand, and reception and ticketing area

While the new Pennsauken building is not very large, it actually appears to be larger than the Sydney location that is opening soon.

An interactive experience such as this may be able to deliver a much larger-feeling racing environment within a relatively compact physical course. The video and virtual reality components could presumably transform the surroundings for racers without requiring multiple expansive tracks.

The property also does not offer a significant amount of parking. That could make sense for a timed, ticketed attraction where management controls how many racers and customers are inside the facility during each session.

More details should become available when the proposal is presented to the Pennsauken Zoning Board on October 7.
