Today Governor Murphy announced that indoor dining will not resume on Thursday (July 2nd), as he feels it is the greatest risk to increasing covid cases, based on situations in other states. In a separate social media post, he called out scenes in media and social media where it appears people are not following distancing rules.
Florida, Texas and California have all recently reduced indoor dining and bars. The Texas Governor was quoted as saying “At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars, The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and protect public health.”
This is sure to come as a big blow to restaurants’ plans to get back to normal, as they were undoubtedly looking forward to the indoor dining phase to increase sales, employment, profits…and customer happiness.
