Tasting Room On Main Mullica Hill; Coffee, Small Plates and Wine Samplings in a Beautiful Setting
Reading Time: 6 minutes

Tasting Room On Main in Mullica Hill is a charming coffee shop, small plate cafe and wine sampling room… featuring wines from Hammonton’s Kennedy Cellars Winery.

A central theme for the cafe is “pairings”… with delicious options for mornings and lunch/evening.

“Rise Up” offers freshly brewed Endgrain Coffee paired with a selection of breakfast small plates including bagels, breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast.

“Wine Down” puts the focus on delicious Kennedy Cellars wines and samplings, paired with a menu where artisan flatbreads are also a star of the show.

The historic building for Tasting Room On Main is an 180+ year old former residence which has been beautifully converted into the cafe and tasting room. Inside and out the building is filled with historic charm but with modern touches in it’s two floors of customer seating areas and private event space.

Outdoor seating is also provided at the Tasting Room On Main, with high-top tables made from wine barrels placed in front of the building. You can sit out front to fully experience Main Street…  or sit “out back” where additional tables are positioned.

The Tasting Room on Main is located in the heart of the Mullica Hill Historic District (of course on Main Street!), directly between High Street and Church Street.  Next door is The Dressing Room on Main Women’s clothing shop.

Parking is conveniently located directly behind the café.

As mentioned the Tasting Room on Main features wines from Kennedy Cellars in Hammonton.  That Hammonton property originally started out as the area’s premier winemaking school.  In 2016, Jack Kennedy (originally from Deptford) purchased the Hammonton location and grew it into a full winery and tasting room.

Kennedy Cellars looks to set themselves apart from others by offering a selection of wines made from grapes that are grown around the world.  With the Tasting Room on Main, you can experience and purchase those delicious wines, right in Mullica Hill.

Their Mullikka Bordeaux Style Red Blend honors Mullica Hill. Mullikka is the name of the early 1600s settlers in the area, which then evolved into Mullica Hill.

Tasting Room on Main

I stopped in Friday to catch up with two of the Tasting Room on Main partners Jack and Yanni, who gave me a tour of beautiful café and shared their philosophy on their customer experience.

I had a great time chatting with both of them and over the course of my extended stay i got to sample a coffee flight, flatbread pizza and a wine sampling

I started off with a coffee flight which in it’s standard selection offers a perfect variety of coffee experiences; Americano, Macchiato, Vanilla Latte and Mocha Latte. And this isn’t just coffee poured itno the glass.. well look at the photos to truly appreciate what this flight is about!

In 1991 the Mullica Hill Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places, with 136 buildings contributing to the designation.

“32 S Main St” is listed as the “Maull home”, cited as being built in 1840. The home originally had a front porch.

The two-story building is actually a fairly good size considering its age, with four windows across the top front defining its width.

Just approaching the building you can see the charm of the building and attention to detail in the remodel, which carries into the interior.   In front of the building, attractive brickwork pavers extend the front outdoor area to the sidewalk and as mentioned there are outdoor seating tables built around wine barrels.

It’s a good time to mention that with the interior, absolutely the owners have maintained the historic charm of the building… but at the same time they’ve integrated a modern feel to it.

There are several cozy and attractive spaces for a casual fresh coffee, bite to eat or a wine sampling… but if you do take a photo for your Instagram or reserve a space for a private event, the Tasting Room on Main is really going to make your photos look awesome!

Once inside the front door you enter into the left front of the building which is where the main counter is for placing your order, receiving your coffee, wine or small plate bites.

Immediately to the right is a second room first floor room which offers customer seating focused around a large fireplace.  This space features a larger center table and around the perimeter are a few other tables as well as a sofa.

More to the back of the first floor is a separate small area with a business printer that customers can use, as well as the restroom.

For the flatbread I chose their most popular item, an Espresso Balsamic Margarita. Fresh mozzarella, roasted tomatoes over an herb base… it looks incredible and tasted even better.

Upstairs are two rooms which are perfect for a quieter experience.  During my late morning visit a customer was upstairs enjoying a fresh cup of coffee while working on his laptop. I need to do more of this myself!

The front room upstairs is the largest in the café as it spans the entire width, and is also perfect for a private event such as a wedding shower.

While I didn’t count the total number of seats in that large room,  I would say it’s about two dozen.  A really smart feature is they have a bar countertop area with a selection of wine glasses behind it… so for an event you can purchase your Kennedy Cellars wine and have perfect counter space for food or serving wine to your guests.

The second floor also offers another separate seating area room (the third in the building) in the rear of the building, which offers counter height seating along 2 walls, and a center table.

And of course I tried wine from Kennedy Cellars! Jack tells me the Hammonton location is very popular and I can understand why… the wine is incredible! Because this is a satellite tasting room, customers have the choice of purchasing a bottle or a trying wine sampling which is similar to a flight and offers four wines in either white or red selections.

Tasting Room on Main is open every day with the extended “Wine Down” hours on Thursday-Saturday.
