Steve’s Grilled Cheese and Quesadilla Company opened up last week on the White Horse Pike in Stratford NJ, in what was originally a Friendly’s restaurant. With the opening of the Stratford location, this gets Steve’s back into Camden County after closing their Glendora location due to an “unresolvable issue with their landlord”
I stopped into the Stratford location this weekend, wanting to get a bite to eat and grab a photo or two. I spoke briefly with the very polite (but focused) manager who suggested “come on in… have a sandwich!”. But honestly… the store was very busy, they had one booth free, and just then a family with young children came in and there was no way I was delaying those smiling faces from getting a delicious grilled cheese, quesadilla, or mac & cheese! But I will be back!
So yes, Steve’s is much more than just Grilled Cheese, although that is there signature dish.
Looking at their Glassboro/Rowan menu (which may differ in Stratford), they offer:
- Grilled Cheese in a variety of options
- Grilled CheeseSteaks
- Breakfast Sandwiches
- Italian Grilled Cheese (on garlic bread)
- French Fries and premium “Feature Fries”
- Quesadillas
- Chicken Tenders
- Mac & Cheese
- Salad Options. Mom has to eat too! 🙂
According to a 2016 article in Shore News Today, the eatery started in Sea Isle City when Sea Isle resident and realtor Steve Freda saw a television food show featuring grilled cheese and thought it was something he could try in Sea Isle. It was a big success! He quickly brought on his daughter to help run the business and they now have 6 locations; Stratford, Glassboro, Mays Landing, Ocean City, Wildwood and Sea Isle City.
All food is fresh “We don’t even have a freezer”, and prices are kept typically under $10. Inexpensive comfort food seems like a winning combination!
