Spicy’s Bar Glassboro Opening Soon. Bringing Full Bar, Dinner Menu to Rowan Cafe

Spicy’s Bar Glassboro Opening Soon. Bringing Full Bar, Dinner Menu to Rowan Cafe

Spicy’s Bar is opening very soon in Glassboro NJ, taking over the breakfast/lunch focused “Dawn To Dusk” space on Rowan Boulevard.  The new owners are changing things up with Spicy’s Bar in 2 exciting ways, adding a “globally influenced” dinner offering and yes… a full bar!

To be clear, the original Dawn To Dusk Cafe is still open for their amazing breakfast and lunch menu, but customers have been seeing changes taking place inside, with new paint and the conversion of the diner style counter area into a full bar!

The new Glassboro restaurant is being developed by the family who also own Swedesboro’s popular Spicy Affair Indian restaurant.  Their new Glassboro location is not going to be an Indian restaurant, although you may see some Indian menu selections as part of their upcoming Internationally inspired dinner menu.

In fact, the new Spicy’s Bar isn’t about completely changing what the prior café owners were doing so well… and instead focuses on adding more to what was already a working formula.

The well-loved breakfast and lunch menu is expected to carry on at the Rowan Boulevard restaurant.

If you weren’t aware, the restaurant originally opened in 2019 as a “daytime cafe”… and today Dawn to Dusk closes at 3pm.

But when the transformation to Spicy’s Bar is completed in the next few weeks, the closing time will likely be extended to 11pm, with those added hours of operating time supporting a completely new dinner offering.

By day, we offer a bright, welcoming atmosphere perfect for casual dining and drinks, and in the evenings, we bring a laid-back, elevated vibe. It’s a fun, inviting space where you can enjoy great food and drinks all day, meet up with family and friends, and experience the things our Glassboro community already loves — just with a fresh twist!

This roadmap for their new Spicy’s Bar restaurant was well thought out, particularly since the husband and wife team Nik and Cindy actually took ownership of the cafe back in January!  They’ve had 10 months to learn what was working well with the original café, and came up with a gameplan that brings the best of both concepts together.

A few days ago I stopped in to chat with Nik and Cindy, who shared with me details on the upcoming Spicy’s Bar, but some aspects they are not fully ready to share just yet.

For example, the new dinner menu it’s still in process of being finalized so they were not in a position just yet to share individual entree options.

It’s an interesting challenge in developing the expanded menu as Rowan Boulevard already has several amazing restaurants with La Scala’s Fire, Mexican Mariachi, Chickie and Pete’s and more.

So the goal for the Gloucester County couple is to present customers with something that is both comfortable and known, but with interesting global twists to make Spicy’s Bar stand out on the popular restaurant and retail Boulevard.

Additionally an opening date has not been set yet but as Nik and I chatted about the current transformation status, we agreed it’s like they are in the “9th inning of the ballgame” so the opening date is close.   But as you know in baseball and new business openings, until that last out is completed there is always a chance for extra innings!

And if you’re curious about the name Spicy’s Bar…  well obviously part of it comes from their first restaurant in Swedesboro Spicy Affair, which takes its name from Indian cuisine leaning towards fiery seasonings.

I’m not sure Nik wants me to share this with readers but in his core group of friends there is another Nick… and with confusion coming up regularly in conversations “which Nick?”…  well as the owner of Spicy Affair his friends thought it would be fun and very clear to just call him “Spicy Nik”.   Which leads us to Spicy’s Bar…

The conversion to Spicy’s Bar is far along in the process with the core construction of the new bar almost completed, but there are some construction elements remaining such as a space for the Wine cooler.

The interior has been repainted to a dark slate Gray tone, and the bold tile work which covered the front of the bar has been replaced with a shiplack-style wood covering.

Dawn-To-Dusk did carry a bit a modern version of a farmer’s cafe for the decor, but the new owners have done a great job identifying the key aspects of what to change on the interior… it’s amazing how a new paint color and and upgrades in the counter area can really change the vibe of the place.

Things are looking sophisticated and modern for the upcoming Spicy’s Bar.

The area behind the former counter space has been fully converted into a bar area with a variety of shelves to highlight various adult beverage options. A 10-tap system has been added with one distinctive tap handle already in place.…  Guinness.

Which all adds up to an experience that will still have the primary focus on the menu of Spicy’s Bar, with the addition of innovative cocktails and high quality beers.

As they get closer to opening and the final aspects are “set in stone” I will be back to share the experience with 42Freeway readers!
