South Jersey Cookie Cakes has opened in Westville NJ offering incredibly artistic and fun cookie cakes as well as delicious freshly baked grab-and-go items.
I stopped in a few days ago and met local owner Rachel who has set up shop on Westville’s popular Broadway in the heart of the quaint Westville downtown commercial district.
And while Rachel knew her goal was to open up a brick-n-mortar cookie cake bakery, the need really escalated in an awesome way when her July Facebook post at the popular South Jersey Food Scene group “blew-up”… which gave her the extra push which has led to her Grand Opening of the new Westville bakery. (More on that below)
As mentioned, South Jersey Cookie Cakes is located in Westville… next to Lorenzo’s Cabana, directly across from the Speranza restaurant, and just steps away from the Westville brewery.
Rachel is baking fresh and delicious cookie cakes on site… but the real excitement comes from her amazing artistic designs that she creates from her own creative mind based on customer requests, or looking at a graphic design photo as a guide.
She is also very talented at cake lettering, so even the simpler standard cake request “Happy Birthday Lauren”… turns into a beautiful creation.
But the requests typically become more complex with interesting custom edible graphics, such as the cookie cake for a 6 year old’s birthday which features amazing recreations of THREE Philly mascots; The Phanatic, Gritty and Swoop!
Of course everything about the cookie cakes is 100% edible.. and 100% delicious.
The new bakery location gives Rachel a commercial kitchen to bake and sell her cookie cakes, but really you just need to scroll through her Facebook page or website gallery to be amazed at the creativity, talent and time she puts into each cookie cake.
Which leads us to the ordering process which Rachel describes fully at her website.
Simply, when ordering a cake from Rachel what you’re really booking is a slot in her calendar for her to make your custom creation. Don’t worry about the design first… grab that slot in her calendar first! You can review details afterwards, which she mostly handles via the integrated text message system.
The pricing model is also very simple (and inexpensive) … $15 for the personal-sized lettered cake and only $20 for a personal cake with a custom design. For any type of gathering though you’ll probably want to step up to the larger circle cookie cake at $35.00 with design, or maybe even the larger rectangle.
Well… check the South Jersey Cookie Cakes website for more details on ordering.
South Jersey Cookie Cakes
Rachel has known her entire life that she had these creative talents, and had been making cookie cakes for friends and family for years… but really only somewhat recently did she consider turning it into a delicious fulltime business which could be shared with everyone.
With kids getting older Rachel was planning on a career in the fitness industry where she was an active powerlifter, possibly starting a career as a personal trainer. But the cookie cake business kept calling her… well more so, more and more friends and customers kept calling her to make her artistic cookie cakes!
Rachel and her husband started the process to look for a location for a bakery… but things really kicked into high gear for her after she posted at the popular Facebook foodie group South Jersey Food Scene.
I really knew nothing of this connection for her bakery plans until she volunteered “July 2nd”… which is the when she made a post at the South Jersey Food Scene Group, sharing images of her cookie creations. (Facebook Post)
That post absolutely blew up, gaining 1,200 “likes” and 250 comments which led to countless cookie cake orders!
While she knew people really loved her work, that response really sealed things in her mind that there was a big demand for her cookie cakes and she needed to get a more official retail bakery location opened.
So remember you absolutely can pop in and see what Rachel has to offer for grab and go, but if you’re looking to order a custom cookie cake… book that time slot in her calendar! Check the website for details.
