Rob’s Kitchen opened yesterday (June 20th) in Stratford NJ! While Rob’s Kitchen is the name most will typically use to reference the new eatery, the branding also calls out “Jamaican and American Soul Food”.
I stopped in today to check out the newly open restaurant which is at 804 N White Horse Pike in a former Friendly’s restaurant building… to find out that Rob already had a good crowd of customers in the restaurant dining-in or waiting for take out orders.
I was hoping to grab lunch during my visit, Rob’s was a little bit busy at the time and I didn’t have long before my next stop… But I will definitely be back to try Rob’s amazing food… and maybe an experience video to come?
The menu is broken out into several categories; Jamaican Platters, Soul Food Platters, Sandwiches and Wings.
And as you expect, Rob has an amazing selection of home-made sides.
Chef Rob is well known to many in the area as his restaurant brand goes back to 2001. Most recently he was operating out of the Rumors Bar and Grill in Clementon. Unfortunately when Rumors closed during the pandemic they never reopened again… likely a catalyst for Rob deciding to going back out on his own again… signing on for the friendly’s property.
He is still working on his updated online presence, but a Yelp review from 2019 says ”The food is always so delicious! I love getting their Fried Whiting and Oxtail Platters! Trust me, you will not be disappointed!”
The new restaurant is a somewhat large property with a free standing budling… White Horse Pike at Whitman Ave. They are next to the Zale Funeral Home, and just a couple blocks from the ALDI grocery store.
It’s a great location for Rob as it is close to his former homebase (Rumors), is a free-standing building dedicated to his culinary skills as well as providing an optimal dining experience. The building features indoor seating, space for to-go order pickup, and plenty of parking.
Rob and the team did a great job upgrading the place to make it more attractive and functional.
Grand opening banners out front an on the building to let the numerous White Horse Pike commuters know pull on in!
During my visit Rob popped out of the kitchen for a short bit and I had a chance to introduce myself.. But I didn’t press too hard for questions as it was clear he was very busy on his second day of being open!
42Freeway first wrote about Rob’s Kitchen at the start of this year when it was first announced by the Stratford website.
Rob’s Kitchen Menu – Stratford NJ
While I’m sure Rob considers all of his items on the menu important to him, I did notice that the 1st aspect called out on the signage is “Jamaican”… AND the first category on the menu is also Jamaican.
So in that Jamaican category he’s offering oxtails, jerk chicken, brown stew chicken as well as Curry dishes in a selection of chicken, goat or shrimp.
The Jamaican platters include two choices of size and for the medium size platter the prices are typically around $17.00, with the oxtails and red snapper dishes price slightly higher.
Soul Food platters include two sides and feature whole chicken wings, fried Whiting fish, hot wings and a selection of BBQ options including pork ribs, fried chicken and more.
Sandwiches take some of the best options in the Jamaican and Soul Food menus and turn them into an amazing sandwich… including the fried Whiting fish, BBQ pork ribs, fried chicken, and jerk chicken.
For many who enjoy Soul food and Jamaican Food the side dishes can actually be more important to the meal than the entrée!
And for Rob’s kitchen he’s offering macaroni and cheese, potato salad, collard greens, plantains and more.
Hot Wings have always been a top seller for Rob and with his new Stratford location he is offering in a variety of order sizes.
So as I stated I did not get a chance to each lunch at Rob’s today, but I will be back soon!
