Local sisters Maria and Monica have been baking creating deliciousness at their Ria’s Sweet Creations bakery on Tuckahoe Rd this past year, and 42Freeway stopped in recently to check out.. and taste.. the huge variety of creatively baked products.
There are a lot of amazing bakeries in the area but what makes Ria’s unique is just the wide array of amazingly creative and delicious things they make. Cakes, Cookies, Donuts, Gourmet Popcorn, Pizzelles, Marshmallow Pops and more! And even delicious hot coffee!
Ria’s Sweet Creations bakery is located on Tuckahoe Road, just past the Walmart Shopping Center on the right.
Many remember the building as the ARC Sunshine Bakery, but today it is a fully independent bakery operated by the two sisters, who originally grew up in Williamstown! Today they live in Washington Township and Williamstown!
Plus they are working out the details to bring ARC individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in to the bakery to learn skills as interns!
I normally don’t write about when a building/business changes hands unless there is something different and unique to the story. As an example, Polizzi’s pizza taking over the former Amalfi’s and bringing Detroit style pizza to the area had more to the story for readers to “sink their teeth into”.
Well after checking out what the two sisters at Ria’s Sweet Creations are creating, I knew I had to share the business with 42Freeway readers.
First off if you are on Facebook go now and “like” their page. They do a great job sharing all of their latest baked products and honestly that tells the story better than any long prose I could write! They have about 700 followers when it should easily be 7,000!
Big Baking Variety at Ria’s!
Yes they have amazingly beautiful cakes that alone are worthy of a bakery store, but what also sets Ria’s apart is there large selection of beautiful cupcakes, and cake pops, and cookies… and even green and red Christmas popcorn and store made pizzelles! Just a big variety of tasty treats!
I was surprised by the variety and how everything looked like it belonged in a magazine, and I had to ask if they made everything!
Monica replied “Everything you see for sale in the store, we made. Right here”
It brought into my mind that scene in the Willy Wonka movie where there is a large fantasy candy room and Willy Wonka says “everything you see here is edible!”
Maria tells me that the two have been baking specialty cakes for many years, and when the opportunity came to take over the bakery and retail store, they took the leap to expand the business.
I’m sure they felt it was a big risk, but with the baking and decorating talents the two have honed over the years it seems that it’s all working out perfectly!
I think what really hit-home for me is the combination of really beautifully created baked goods AND the wide variety of products the tackle.. and excel in.
There are many successful bakeries specializing in just cakes, or just cupcakes, or just donuts.
At Ria’s Sweet Creations they have all of those items, and a lot more in specialty products like cake pops, pizzelles and gourmet popcorn!
Plus both Maria and Monica are really lovely and fun ladies, who live locally in Washington Township and Williamstown!
I was impressed by what I saw in the store, but looking at their Facebook photos it seems like a never-ending stream of ideas in both the type of treat the create, and the variety of things they make with each type.
Special occasion cakes? Absolutely! But how about one that looks like fall pumpkins, adorned with fall color rose flowers!? Or how about a cannoli cake?!
The cupcakes look like the were just brought over from a food magazine photo shoot with every detail done perfectly. The styles and flavors are just so amazingly creative! Each one is like a piece of art! And they taste as good as they look!
For cookies they have all the classic favorites but they can make custom designs and flavors for your special event. Really inventive designs and styles! They can even print custom graphics and sayings on the cookies!
Did I mention they make donuts? I variety of donuts to go with their fresh hot coffee!
Each one of those items listed above could be individual businesses for bakeries, and they have them all at Ria’s Sweet Creations!
But that isn’t enough… They have specialty baked items too…
Hot Cocoa bombs in a variety of Christmas decorations… including The Grinch!
Hot coffee and scones!! Did I mention they serve coffee too?
Gourmet popcorn in different flavors and styles and Chocolate covered pretzels.
The Cake Pops and Marshmallow Pops look incredible too and they are more than just round balls on a stick. They have wreath cake pops that are shaped like wreaths. And very cutely decorated snowman versions.
And macaroons, and gingerbread bars, and peanut brittle, and twisted white chocolate covered pretzels.
It just goes on and on!
So thank you for reading along this far but seriously you need to do two things.
