Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers has announced the opening dates for two new Gloucester County locations, with the Glassboro location looking completed and the Washington Township restaurant not too far behind.
If you’re unfamiliar with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, they are a Baton Rouge headquartered fast-casual chain offering a simple menu focused on freshly made chicken fingers which can be ordered as chicken fingers, or a slider sandwich.
Having an almost cult-like following in other parts of the country, in 2024 they’ve made a big push to enter the South Jersey market with locations now open in Deptford, Cherry Hill, Marlton and Burlington.
Like many chains in the fast-casual category, Raising Cane’s has a distinctive look to the restaurant locations, and all six of the South Jersey locations are completely new builds… in many cases acquiring prime locations which required the demolition of previous business buildings.
The Glassboro Raising Cane’s location is opening on Delsea Drive at Donald Barger Boulevard, on a prime corner property which previously was home to a Rite-Aid pharmacy (directly next to Wendy’s, across from Wawa).
I visited the location over the weekend and honestly everything on the outside looks completely ready to go, although there were two contractors on the roof working on signage.
While all of the Raising Cane’s locations in South Jersey have a very common style to them, each has its own variations.
One aspect that jumps out to me is the outdoor dining offerings vary widely!
In Burlington (the first in South Jersey), that location includes a large covered (and fenced in) patio space, while Deptford hardly has any outdoor dining offering at all with just a couple tables along the outside glass.
For the Glassboro Raising Cane’s the patio design seems to be between those two ends of the spectrum… with a concrete patio space offering several tables but no roof or railing enclosure.
Compare that to a location I visited in Philadelphia (near the airport) which had a really cool indoor-outdoor space wrapping the dining area, which via glass garage doors could be opened making it an outdoor or indoor dining experience! I wish we had this style in New Jersey.
For the Washington Township (Turnersville) location it is being developed on the Black Horse Pike at the site of a former Pep Boys store. This location sits one property over from the Ganttown Road intersection, but has a side access road to Ganttown.
The construction effort at Washington Township boggles my mind regarding how fast the building has gone up in the last month! (November 4th Update)
In my October 25th visit the property was completely empty except for the start of the building’s concrete foundation outline. I returned almost exactly 1 month later to see a completely constructed building with design elements (such as the brickwork) in place, glass windows installed and even the HVAC systems on the roof!
Continuing the theme of “changing up the patio implementations”, based on my visit last week I see a steel patio roof structure was in place at the front of the restaurant… which makes me think the Washington Township location will have a more defined covered outdoor seating element than Deptford and Glassboro.
Raising Cane’s Opening Dates
Finally to the point of the expected openings!
Somewhat recently the regional management team of Raising Cane’s shared with me that Glassboro was expected to open in January and Turnersville would open a month later in February.
This is significantly sooner then updates I had from management earlier in the year who at the time had listed Washington Township as first quarter and Glassboro to open in April! Not only is it earlier but the stores have flipped position regarding their opening dates likely based on construction progress.
With that being said recently raising canes updated their website and added in the individual location pages which clearly identify the opening dates
- Glassboro: Thursday January 9th, 2025
- Turnersville: Tuesday February 4th, 2025
like many new businesses raising canes likes to celebrate their grand opening with a full ribbon cutting ceremony which typically features local elected officials and local management.
They also offer fun giveaways such as “Cane’s For A Year” to a few lucky winners, as well as T-shirts and other swag giveaways.
I was at the April opening of the different location I recorded a portion of it for YouTube.
