The popular PJ Whelihan’s Pub & Restaurant is opening in Deptford NJ, and they have set their official opening date for Wednesday October 16th at 11am!
Opening at the Deptford Landing shopping center on Clements Bridge Road (Sam’s Club/Walmart), the popular Philly metro-area restaurant brand brings their famous wings, burgers, sandwiches, ice cold beers and more to the heart of Deptford’s retail powerhouse commercial district.
If you’re unfamiliar with PJ Whelihan’s, they are very popular pub and restaurant offering food, drinks and fun and a relaxed atmosphere. In South Jersey they have locations in Washington Twp, Haddon Twp, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, and Medford Lakes.
The PJ’s menu offers something for everyone but they are known for their buffalo wings, burgers, salads and more.
PJ’s puts a big focus on the social aspects of the dining experience so each location offers numerous televisions to catch all of the latest sports action. They also offer an extensive beer selection with a big focus on “beers on tap”
PJ Whelihan’s Deptford
As mentioned the new Deptford PJ Whelihan’s is located in the Walmart/Sam’s Club shopping center on Clements Bridge Road.
Within the shopping center, PJ’s is taking over a freestanding building which was originally home to Joe’s Crab Shack (Joe’s closed in May). The building is prominently positioned in the center of the shopping center with visibility from Route 42.
Another advantage of the location is it is just a few minutes from the Route 42 Exit, which makes this new location is easily accessible to many South Jersey residents… and even visitors from Pennsylvania who “cross the river” to shop in Deptford.
The PJ’s team moved fast to secure a deal for the location and to get the remodel started quickly, so they would be ready for the very important holiday retail shopping season. They are opening at the absolute perfect time when this Deptford retail district around the mall will soon be filled with hungry holiday shoppers!
Working in PJ’s favor for the quick reopening is that the original building design was very solid and modern, with a dedicated outdoor dining space already in place.
While I have not been inside the finished building, I did see it when it was under construction and I know that this new PJ’s is a complete interior rebuild from what was originally designed for the space.
I expect to have pre-opening photos to share with readers in a few days, but I didn’t want to wait on the news of the new restaurant opening!
Changes have been made to the exterior of the building… well of course the distinctive PJ Whelihan’s signage is in place.
The exterior color scheme has changed… the dark wood frame around the tall entrance tower has been softened with a grey. The front wall also carries a grey tone with its horizontal wood plank design.
Most notable to the exterior are the changes in the side patio area, where that side space takes on a darker tone paint similar to red brick.
All new “picnic” style tables fill the outdoor space, but what really jumps out… are the installation of multiple televisions on the exterior wall outside, along both side wall segments.
I stopped by early this morning and several of the TV’s were already playing!
The one larger wall segment of the exterior space has windows to the inside dining room, and in a smart move PJ’s placed angled awning sunshades over top of the windows which blocks the sun from entering into the building, and also shades the exterior televisions which are also positioned underneath.
In other Deptford restaurant news, the nearby Pizzeria Uno location closed in July, and nothing has taken over that space yet… I was bummed by that closing as my wife and I really liked that Uno’s, so its nice to have PJ’s opening to help fill in that “excellent beer options, good food, and excellent TV’s” void!
