PJ Whelihan’s Deptford Preview! Opens Wednesday Oct 16th

The new PJ Whelihan’s Pub in Deptford NJ opens Wednesday October 16^th, and I stopped in for a preview experience to share with readers.

Last week I shared the news of the opening date but I had not been inside the restaurant at that point.

Over the weekend the popular restaurant chain held a “Friends & Family” preview experience which is common in the restaurant industry for new locations. It functions as a test-run for a new restaurant so that all aspects of the dining experience are tried-out in a real-world (yet friendly) scenario.

I stopped in on Sunday with my wife and we enjoyed a couple appetizers and an entree each, as well as an ice cold beer or two. To fully assist with the testing of the new pub and restaurant, I timed it so that we caught at least the first quarter of the Eagles game.

What can I say… I’m a team player! The sacrifices I make for this website… 🙂

Inside we found a fully rebuilt “start from the bare studs” design which makes the 32-seat bar a core focus in the main dining room area… and you literally will be blown away by the number of televisions in the restaurant.

It’s clear to me that PJ Whelihan’s wants their Deptford location to at the top of everyone’s mind when they think about going to get a delicious meal, an ice cold beer and catch the latest game…

While I didn’t count it myself I was told unofficially that there are more televisions than there are tables inside. 57 big screen TVs total!

And PJ’s has access to every streaming option… Apple, Amazon, Peacock… wherever the game is playing, PJ Whelihan’s Deptford should have it. The audio system is also state of the art!

If you’re unaware, PJ Whelihan’s is a popular Pub and Restaurant with multiple locations throughout the Delaware Valley… famous for their wings, burgers, sandwiches, ice cold beer and more

This week in Deptford NJ they open a new location in the former Joe’s Crab Shack restaurant building, which is located in the Deptford Landing shopping center where Sam’s Club and Walmart are located on Clements Bridge Road.

As part of the Friends & Family event I did not pay for my food or drinks. All opinions are solely my own, but this really a “new thing experience” article and not a review

PJ Whelihan’s Deptford

For the most part the exterior of the new PJ Whelihan’s in Deptford remains the same as the prior restaurant but is refreshed with a new paint coloring. The patio area has new tables and multiple televisions placed on the exterior wall.

Inside, the entire space was fully redeveloped into an open dining and bar concept featuring 2 separate (yet connected) interior dining areas.

The large main open space features the 32-seat rectangular bar which is positioned off to the right a bit. I counted 36 draft taps offering a variety of local and larger brands. The bar even features USB charting outlets!

In this right side bar area, surrounding the bar along the walls are a mixture of booth and table seating.

The left side of this main space features high-top tables and a row of windows which looks out to the patio on the side.

In this main room the televisions surround the top of each wall, as well as in center of the bar.

The second dining area is positioned at the front of the restaurant, in the area which used to be the Joe’s Crab Shack bar.

With wide entrance doors to enter this area it’s still very open to the full main bar, but also private enough to be perfect for your next private event.

The third dining space is the side outdoor patio which has been upgraded with new patio seating options as well as televisions placed on the exterior wall
