Palmisano’s Sandwich Shop Washington Twp Opens Sat 10/26.  Full Restaurant Remodel

Palmisano’s Sandwich Shop Washington Twp Opens Sat 10/26.  Full Restaurant Remodel

Already one of South Jersey’s top hoagie spots, Palmisano’s Sandwich Shop in Washington Township reopens on Saturday 10/26 after a complete remodel which brings indoor seating and full restaurant capabilities (including expanded menu) to the former Brick Grocery space.

Located in the Harbor Place shopping center on Egg Harbor Road (at Hurffville-Grenloch), owner Nick Palmisano originally opened the space in 2021 as Brick Grocery, focused on gourmet specialty grocery items.

The sign has been up for months, and now Palmisano’s Sandwich Shop opens in Washington Twp!

When he later added his amazing gourmet hoagies into the mix and saw the incredible reaction from customers (including customer’s regular social media posts praising the hoagies)… well this led Nick to go “all-in” on the foodie aspect, shifting the focus to being a full sandwich-centric restaurant with a much broader menu offering, including hot-prepared items.

The gourmet hoagies which are prepared on fresh Sarcone’s rolls still get top billing, but with the newly installed grill, fryer, stovetop and more… Palmisano’s is looking to shake up the Gloucester County sandwich scene with their delicious chicken cutlets, sausage peppers and onions, meatballs and more.

And let’s not forget that there is now plenty of comfortable interior seating!

What you see today at Palmisano’s is a complete floor to ceiling rebuild of the space which effectively splits the deep store in half, with the customer order counter positioned in the center.

Behind the counter is the large open kitchen, and in front there’s an equally large dining room area with seating for probably 30 customers.

In my recent visit this week, just walking through the front door I immediately picked up the delicious scent of homemade “gravy” cooking in a big pot on the stove.  That delicious smell made the new expanded direction for Palmisano’s really “sink in for” me!

A full kitchen has been installed at Palmisano’s Washington Township

Gourmet is still the underlying theme at the new Palmisano’s as Nick uses only the highest quality ingredients, such as Rovagnati deli meats. Every item that Nick sells he has put a lot of thought into making everything significant and higher-quality.

Which leads to the smartly designed menu which offers a nice variety of item categories, while also keeping the full menu choices at a reasonable amount.

Along with their artisan hoagies, Nick has added store roasted pork, hand breaded cutlets and homemade meatballs…  as well as breakfast sandwiches, salads, a variety of pasta dishes and more.  Palmisano’s even has “Florida-Style Inside-Outs”… which to us folks in New Jersey are similar to panzerottis.

You can even get a freshly brewed cup of Lavatta coffee or barista prepared drink!

Nick has also partnered with several other local food-centric businesses to offer a variety of delicious specialties including Two Sweet Boutique, Sweet Crumbs, Frangelis and more.

You can also still find an assortment of grocery specialty items including meats from Esposito’s… fresh from South Philly’s Italian Market.

There is a new Facebook page for Palmisano’s so be sure to “follow”

The original Brick Grocery Store was built out as a retail store requiring minimal customizations. The conversion over to Palmisano’s was much more significant and took probably two months to complete.

Nick says it’s an effort he could not have completed without the help of his son Nicholas, who as a graphic design student also created the restaurant logo, menu and other branding for Palmisano’s.

The full kitchen and hookups (gas, electrical) all had to be added to support the commercial grade appliances.  The installation of an overhead exhaust hood was also on the list, which if you’re unfamiliar with restaurant build outs it’s likely one of the more challenging and time-consuming aspects of the project.

Nick is smartly positioning his menu to differentiate himself from other restaurants in the area, but he’s developed a kitchen space which really enables him to change things up as he continues to improve the menu.

As mentioned, the front of the restaurant features a large dining room space with a variety of seating options including round tables with pull-out chairs and rectangular tables, with some extra cushiony diner booth-style seating.

The paint color has been changed to a light green, and the wood grain flooring gives the space a calming cafe feel to it.  Attractive lighting fixtures along the walls helps carry that mood.

Two large televisions have been added to the dining room space and will be playing all of the local games… customers coming to pick up orders for the Eagles game won’t miss any action while in the restaurant!

As mentioned Nick has partnered with area chefs and suppliers to round out the menu, including

  • Two Sweet Boutique (Deptford) – Muffins and Cookies
  • Sweet Crumbs (Pitman) – Butter Cakes and Cookies
  • Frangelis (South Philly) – Donuts, Peanut Butter Tandycakes
  • Esposito Meats (South Philly) – Variety of meats; Veal, filet, bronzino and more.
  • Sarcone’s – South Philly Rolls
  • Lavatta   – Coffees and espresso
  • Vera Pasta (West Chester0 – Gnocchi, Ravioli and more

Hours are currently set to cover the lunch and dinner hours during the week, with earlier 8am hours set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday to support the breakfast options.

Palmisano’s is closed on Monday but nick has an interesting idea to offer his kitchen on Monday’s to an area chef who Would be interested in a pop up style venue with full commercial kitchen you.
