Norman’s Hallmark opened this week in Deptford, taking over the same location which previously housed Ruth’s Hallmark, but in an all new setting. Norman’s Hallmark is a large regional chain based out of Pennsylvania and they have dozens of stores. In South Jersey they have locations in Cherry Hill, Moorestown, Mt Laurel, Medford, Burlington and Mays Landing.
The new Deptford Norman’s location is on Almonesson Road in the Court at Deptford shopping center, which has several well know stores such as Burlington, Hobby Lobby, Ross, Chuck E Cheese, Olive Garden and Red Lobster.
Norman’s is located in the back right side of the U-shaped center, very close to Hobby Lobby and Party City.
We originally reported on Norman’s coming to Deptford back on August 21st and it was clear our readers were REALLY excited about a new Hallmark store in the immediate 42Freeway area.
We Visit the New Deptford Store
We visited the store today which is just a day or two after their opening.
The layout of the has some similarities to when it was Ruth’s in that the cashier is in the center just as you enter the store, and the greeting card section is to the back left.
But beyond those overall sections of the store, it seems that everything is new. And it is definitely brighter!
The front left of the store was already set-up with Christmas Holiday decorations and ornaments. Well the also have Halloween and Thanksgiving items also, but it seems the timing of the Deptford store opening was perfectly timed to their “Ornament Debut 2021”!
The side wall was displaying keepsake ornaments. and different sections were featuring well loved characters such as the Peanuts crew, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and Star Wars!
They even have Johnson’s (Ocean City) Famous Caramel Popcorn in a Christmas decorated bucket, and Asher’s (Souderton) Chocolate Covered Pretzels!
Like we said… Norman’s is a big deal.. but they are a local big deal supporting other Delaware Valley businesses.
I know what you are thinking… but Thanksgiving is only a month away, and Christmas is two months! Time is really flying.
The back right of the store was set-up for gifts.
Stuffed animals, coffee mugs, picture frames, seasonings, sauces and Crayola products (Easton PA!)) were some of the available items in the gift area.
There was also a table setup with pre-bagged chocolates.
The Front right side of the store is allocated to clothing items.
During my visit I did pick up a surprise card for my wife… awwweee…. and registered as Gold Crown “Rewards” member…. which I believe earns points towards products and discounts.
Norman’s Continues to Grow in a Tough Market

Norman’s seems to be bucking the trend in the Greeting Card and Gift retail industry in a very good way, as news searches on them turn up multiple stories over the last two years of new stores and store expansions! We see new stores planned for Reading PA, an expansion in Bridgewater NJ, a new location opened in Hamilton NJ,
While Norman’s has it’s largest presence in Pennsylvania (including the Corporate office and Distribution center in Newtown PA), a 2011 NJ.com article informs us they started out in Trenton NJ… way back in 1939!
