ModWash Carwash continues their area expansion, as they look develop on Blackwood Clementon Road in Gloucester Township, at the location of the closed Atlantic Care Urgent Care property. Most remember this building in a former life as a Nifty Fifty restaurant.
The building is located next to the Favorites off-track betting facility, and directly across from the closed Friendly’s restaurant.
The Planning Board meeting is Tuesday September 14th, 2021. More meeting details at the bottom of the post.
Readers will note that the Urgent Care facility was a significant remodel not too long ago, converting the former neon and stainless steel Nifty Fifties restaurant into a modern medical facility. But then the Urgent Care facility closed seemingly very quickly!
For the Carwash project, the building with it’s extensive remodeling will be demolished to construct an all new 4,562 sf Modwash express car wash on the property.
This proposal adds to the growing list of new businesses for the roadway.
Modwash Big Expansion Nationally and In Our Area!
Modwash Carwash is owned by Tennessee based real estate developer Hutton, who are on a very aggressive expansion drive to become one of the largest carwash operators in the USA… in just a few years! Website PetrolPlaza wrote in 2020 that Modwash is targeting 100 locations by the end of 2023.
In our area, Hutton has recently opened a location on Berlin Cross Keys Road across from the Tilted Kilt (post on that soon!)
They also were approved for a second Berlin Cross Keys Road location a few miles up the road at New Brooklyn Erial Road!
Over in Washington Township, the long closed Burger King building on Route 42 will also become a Modwash Carwash, and recently construction fencing has been put up ahead of the development.

We also see that they are planning to open Modwash Carwashes in Magnolia and Deptford! More on those to come!
A little further outside our core area, they recently opened a location in Millville, and they have plans for car washes in Delran, Lumberton, Mays Landing and other New Jersey locations.
Modwash Carwashes are state-of-the-art all new construction carwashes! Their carwashes are “stay in your car” designs, with modern vacuums outside.
Carwashes can be purchased individually, or as an unlimited monthly membership. With the number of area locations, many my find the membership a convenient option.
Blackwood Clementon Road – Things Are Happening
This announcement comes after several other Blackwood Clementon projects have been announced, or are in process!
Let’s be honest… for years the commercial prospects of Blackwood along Blackwood-Clementon Road and the Black Horse Pike had looked fairly grim. Many closed shopping centers, and unkept buildings.
But since I’ve started this website 7 years ago, there have been some very positive changes!
Listed below are new projects just from the last 2-3 years.. and doesn’t even include the Gloucester Premium Outlets.

Republic Bank: A new glass walled Republic Bank opened across from the former Denny’s
Royal Farms: Located where the Super Fresh building used to be, Chipotle will be directly across the street, and a newer Republic Bank is at the intersection also.
