Mochi Tea opens Thursday November 7th in the Court at Deptford Shopping Center on Almonesson Road (Hobby Lobby/Olive Garden) in a unit which is positioned to the right of Kirkland’s.
Initially the menu will offer a variety of bubble-tea style drinks as well as freshly made mochi-donuts and cream puffs.
Once the staff becomes comfortable with all aspects of the new eatery and menu, Mochi Tea will add more meal-centric items including Korean style wings and chicken sandwiches!
I stopped in yesterday and caught up with Yan, a Gloucester County resident who with her family developed all aspects of the new shop including branding, store design and construction as well as the menu.
42Freeway first wrote about plans for Mochi Tea back in April and now 6 months later they are celebrating their opening!
For the “soft opening”, Mochi Tea is offering three days of drink promotion (Nov 7-9th)…. All drinks on those days are “buy one, get one free”.
I just happened to stop back in yesterday as they were in the store training new employees. I was greeted with a very friendly owner Yan, who with just my very simple introduction immediately offered “do you want to try a complimentary tea?”
Well absolutely I do!
After a quick discussion about the menu I settled on a Pinemango Jelly Tea from their Mochi Tea Special Section.
It was a deliciously made tea, very refreshing with a tropical vibe to it… and not overly sweet.
I think most people are now aware of these bubble tea shops as over the last few years they have been opening up in many South Jersey communities.
The mochi tea drink menu is separated into several categories offering flavored teas, frozen slushies, the very traditional bubble milk tea and more.
You can also order a cheese foam drink which is exactly as it sounds… a delicious flavored tea with a thick layer of cheese foam on top.
And if you’re not familiar with mochi-donuts, they are a fusion pastry which combines a traditional American style donut with Japanese mochi. Mochi is rice based soft and chewy dessert… Which one made as a doughnut creates a very light and airy bite.
The donuts are then topped with a variety of flavored icings and other toppings.
Mochi Tea: Court At Deptford
The unit for Mochi Tea was previously home to Cherry Blow Dry.
That larger unit was split in half with Mochi Tea taking the left side and recently we announced that Nothing Bundt Cakes is opening on the right side of that unit…. With the popular Viet Pho restaurant immediately next in line!
The three eateries should prove to be very popular and actually helping each other out. I can imagine customers stopping in to visit one of the three places and deciding for example “ohh while I’m here let me grab a bubble tea also”
Inside Mochi Tea it’s not an overly large customer space but definitely room for a dozen or more customers to place their orders. Similar design concept of one of the popular national Cookie shops.
The interior is bright and welcoming with a front glass display unit featuring the mochi-donuts and cream puffs.
While there was no seating in the space at the time, a Japanese Claw/Crane game was in the shop waiting to be set-up.
