Mario’s Famous Cookies opens today at Collingswood’s popular Haddon Ave Downtown district. I stopped in yesterday and caught up with Mario and his family to check out his freshly baked cookies, pound cakes and more.
Everything at Mario’s Famous Cookies is made with all natural ingredients and without any preservatives. With each product individually wrapped, you get the perfect balance of long term freshness without all of the preservatives.
Plus Mario offers a full assortment of gluten-free baked goods (baked in same kitchen, after full cleaning)
Located at 824 Haddon Ave the larger portion of the building is home to Foster-Warne Funeral Home, and directly across the street is Café Antonio’s. And yes when the adjacent lot is empty you can park there for free to shop at Mario’s!
Mario started out as a Cottage Baker selling at area farmer’s markets including Haddonfield and Haddon Heights… and is making this move to his permanent location within the awesome Main Street shopping community of Collingswood
But his cooking and baking goes back many years as Mario is a culinary school graduate. Life led him different career paths but he always baked for family and friends. Several years ago decided he wanted baking to be a bigger part of his life.
All of Mario’s recipes are his own, and he started with perfecting his chocolate chip cookie recipe… and his menu has grown into other flavors including oatmeal, snickerdoodle, black and white cookies and more.
Next in line for Mario was delicious Pound Cakes which he offers in a variety of flavors including cream cheese, raspberry crumb, and chocolate chip banana bread…to name a few.
Mario likes to describe his new shop as being a permanent home for his Farmer’s Market experience. Mario now bakes at an offsite commercial kitchen and brings in his fresh baked goods to his Haddon Avenue shop fresh for every operating day.
His wife Nancy has also been helping Mario set up the shop and did all the graphic design work including the “selfie-friendly” Mario’s Famous Cookies wall!
Walking in I didn’t know that Mario also sold pound cake, so when offered something to try I went for the cake!
Honestly just the one slice had a significant weight to it…. it lived up to the name!
It was a very fresh and delicious bite with just the right amount of sweet cream cheese flavor… absolutely a perfect item for a snack or to bring home a whole cake for the family or friends gatherings.
Currently Mario’s Cookies hours are focused on the weekends with Friday and Saturday hours from 11:00 AM to 9:00, and Sunday 10 to 2pm. As the warmer spring and summer weather comes in foot traffic on Haddon Ave. increases Mario expects to expand his hours and open days.
During my visit Mario also had his daughter in the shop… friends stopped over and then even Collingswood Mayor Jim Maley stopped in. It was fun visit with Mario and his crew, so be sure to stop in this weekend and say hello, and hopefully buy some cookies or pound cake
