Lillo’s Tomato Pies Gloucester City Sets Opening For Early February.  Now Hiring

In one month Lillo’s Tomato Pies opens their second South Jersey location, taking over the former Thomas Murphy’s Pub on Burlington Street in Gloucester City.

Yes their new Camden County location will have a full bar as well as their “Dave Portnoy” top-rated Trenton tomato pies, cheesesteaks and more!

DELAYED Opening! On January 11th Lillo’s posted an update on Social Media that due to delays taking over the liquor license, they have delayed the planned opening and INTERVIEWS scheduled for Sunday Jan 12 at postponed.

In fact the neighborhood corner pub location (located just a block off of the Gloucester City waterfront and Freedom Pier) was previously beautifully remodeled and featured two floors of bar and dining spaces.. with an outdoor patio deck. I haven’t seen yet what has changed for the Lillo’s takeover, but I know they had a good starting foundation!

In a social media post yesterday Lillo’s announced the Grand Opening date as Friday February 7th

The former Thomas Murphy Pub in Gloucester City will soon see new life as Lillo’s Tomato Pies (and cheesesteaks)

At the same time they also announced they’re hiring for all positions including bar staff, servers, kitchen staff and a part-time “media and editing” person.

This Sunday January 12th from 1pm-6pm they are conducting on-site interviews at the upcoming Gloucester City location! Note, the Eagles Round 1st playoff game is at 4:30pm so plan accordingly!

For Lillo’s it’s been a whirlwind of success since opening their Hainesport Burlington County location just three years ago, where they quickly established a “must try” reputation amongst the locals. Things really took off when national celebrity food reviewer Dave Portnoy stopped in and gave both their tomato pies and cheesesteaks a top rating.

This instantly catapulted Lillo’s into the vocabulary of every pizza and cheesesteak lover in South Jersey and really the Philadelphia area, causing customers to travel from significant distances just to try their pizza and cheesesteaks.

For my November article I visited them in Hainesport for the very first time and I have to say… There definitely is something special and different about the Lillo’s cheesesteak!  It was a slightly chopped steak but they sort-of left the layers of meat together in chunks so it made a little bit more thicker bite which gave a very satisfying bite.

Just as important in the Lillo’s cheesesteak is the cheese and onions which are magic we melt it throughout the entire sandwich.  It is literally impossible to take a bite of a Lillo’s cheesesteak without getting all of the flavors in every single bite.

I also tried a slice of pizza and it was delicious but I really want to judge the pizza with a full pie which will probably wait for their opening next month in Gloucester City.

The Lillo’s team really has their stuff together because as part of their announcement not only did they list the opening date and the address, but they’ve already put out their full hours for the bar and kitchen.

With the initial opening starting on February 7th, the new Lillo’s Gloucester City will be open 5 days a week (closed Monday and Tuesday) with a lunch and evening set of hours. See below for full details.

Lillo’s adds “Hours may adjust as we hear from the community and grow into our new space.”
