A new Harbor Freight Deptford NJ location is close to opening, with an estimated opening date in late February. There are indications online that the actual date is February 28th.
In my visit today I could see the main front building signage is in place, and today workers were working on the large signage for the shopping plaza (along Clements Bridge Road) adding Harbor Freight to that sign.
We first broke the news of the new Harbor Freight back in July of last year.
Harbor Freight is actively hiring for multiple roles in the Deptford store including stocking associates, retail stocking manager, and even temporary seasonal employees (who help load up inventory in the store ahead of its opening).
The new store is located directly next to the Forman Mills discount clothing store on Hurffville Road in Deptford NJ.
The two retailers are splitting what was previously a large Kmart store.
Forman mills originally occupied the entire space, but with the addition of Harbor Freight they consolidated the foreman’s mill store into a slightly smaller space, built an interior dividing wall, and created a new distinct front entrance for Harbor Freight.
This still leaves Forman mills as a large store since the former Kmart itself was large as the original store also included an auto repair shop.
Things are really looking up for this Deptford Plaza center. At the other end of the same shopping center a new Joann’s craft store opened last fall.
Still available in the center is the former AC Moore craft store space.
There is another store not too far away in Turnersville on the Black Horse Pike but I do not expect the Deptford store to have any impact. Harbor Freight is on a huge growth effort.
Harbor Freight was recently named the fastest-growing retailer in the United States, and in the year before Aug 2022 they had opened 131 new stores! Almost 10 new stores per month.
Earlier this month they opened a location in Pennsville, at the former Peebles store location.

Harbor Freight is a National retailer of tool and related equipment with over 1,300 locations in the United States and over 25,000 employees.
They originally started out as a mail-order company and then internet based business.
In 1980 Harbor Freight opened a single outlet type store to sell returned merchandise. The retail aspect did so well, they started opening additional store locations selling all new merchandise.
Locally there is a Harbor Freight in Washington Township on the Black Horse Pike, which we expect to be unaffected by this new Deptford location.

In a December Press-Release Harbor Freight had this to say about the upcoming Deptford store and people:

As mentioned Harbor Freight specializes in selling tools and related equipment.
From screwdrivers to large generators, they cover the gambit of tools for home, construction, cars and more.
I even have an electric log splitter from Harbor Freight which is surprisingly powerful for the price!
The full array of products are just too much to list.. it’s truly a tool superstore!
But as a sample categories include: power tools, hand tools, air tools & compressors, tool storage, automotive tools and jacks, generators, lawn & garden, home & security, welding, plumbing, electrical, hardware, painting and more!
Remember Sears and the hardware section they had? Well think of that… Multiplied by Four!
It’s just one of those stores that for many is fun to browse around and check out all the cool things they have!
