The upcoming Deptford Grocery Outlet has announced their opening date which is June 12th.
In a Facebook post last night the local owner-operators also introduced themselves, and I’m excited to see that they are VERY local growing up in the towns in the surrounding communities.
This new Grocery Outlet is coming to the Forman Mills Shopping Plaza on Clements Bridge Road and Hurffville Road. (McDonalds, Taco Bell, Joann). The discount grocer is taking over a unit which most recently was AC Moore. I first wrote about this location last year, and updated the story in October.
If you’re unfamiliar with the store, their full name is Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. The brand considers themselves the largest opportunistic grocery buyer, where they work with manufacturers and distributors to find the best deals on the products consumers want.
Grocery Outlet also puts a big focus on fresh foods with an extensive selection of fresh produce, dairy and meats.
While you’ll find amazing deals (some of which are “grab now before they’re gone”), Grocery Outlet wants to be your one-stop-shop so they round out the selection with all the products you need at great prices including dairy, personal goods and more
Another core aspect of the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market model is while the company builds the stores, they find local owner-operators within the community to run each location, and give them the power to set product selection and pricing!
For the Deptford location, local couple Jed and Lex gave a short intro to themselves on the Facebook announcement… Jed grew up just a few miles away in Pine Hill, and Lex is from Glendora which is literally 3 miles up Clements Bridge Road! They have been married for four years and have two children that are their whole world. (Facebook Post)
It’s a nice balance of bigger company buying power, with local operators listening to the local community and making decisions.
Grocery Outlet is making a big push through South Jersey and locally there are locations opened in Sicklerville and Gibbstown, which I covered both locations extensively at 42Freeway.com
42Freeway first wrote about plans for this Deptford location almost exactly a year ago. As is the case with most of new commercial projects, most of the time was spent on planning and approvals with little activity taking place through 2024… But things really got moving in 2025!
In my visits this week to the Deptford location the front glass is fully open to the store, and you can easily see inside to notice that all of the fixtures are in place including the product shelving and even all of the refrigerator and freezer units.
They still have two months to go before their opening but clearly Grocery Outlet seems far along with the store buildout.
I’ve been to two area locations and they really are an attractive and comfortable store interior. While Grocery Outlet offers discount prices, there’s nothing discount about the store designs where everything is brand new.
Over the next few weeks the Deptford store will add the exterior signage as well as significant amounts of fun interior wall graphics.
