Test Run! Glow Spooky Speedway – Washington Twp

I caught up this week with Glow founder, Dan Uszaki…  who gave me all the chilling details on the exciting new holiday season event, as well as significant changes from what visitors experienced last December.

If you aren’t familiar with Dan and Glow… Dan first established his top-tier holiday lighting reputation from his original “Deptford Dazzling Lights” computerized home lighting display which he previously ran at his home in Deptford.

That display was so well loved by South Jersey residents it was frequently covered in local media… With the biggest recognition coming when the family won ABC’s Great Christmas light fight!

Dan and the family no longer run the holiday display at his home, and instead took the show on the road…  creating the glow Drive-Thru holiday lighting experience in Washington Township!

Glow Spooky Speedway

The entire Glow team was incredibly excited with last year’s successful Christmas season experience in Washington Township, and immediately got working on plans for 2024.

At the same time they learned from the experiences and are making adjustments for the Glow holiday seasons… which starts October 1st with the Spooky Speedway.

Soon to be transformed into a magical Holiday lighting extravaganza! Twice the size as last year. Glow Spooky Speedway – Washington Twp

Last season Dan was on site every day and chatted with thousands of visitors… and what he kept hearing over and over again is how much everyone really enjoyed the drive-thru experience through the amazing custom lighted holiday displays.

That led him and the team to wonder “how can we provide even more of that well-loved drive-thru light aspect of Glow?”

So as mentioned they have doubled the length of the drive-thru and it is now about 1.2 miles long!   Dan anticipates it will be a 30 to 45 minute experience!

Glow Christmas Light Drive-Thru 2023

To support the longer drive-thru and the new Halloween theme,  Dan and the team have created approximately 1,400 new lighted props, added additional video walls and created all new larger scene displays.

The full theme is an abandoned Route 66 Highway where guests will travel across America and visit every State along the famed Americana roadway.

The team has taken care to represent not only the individual states but also key pieces of roadside Americana.

You’ll drive through Inferno Illinois which features a large haunted covered wagon. Or how about Mad Scientist Missouri?!

And along the way guests will visit a graveyard, Inferno land and more… and see Sugar Skulls and Halloween candy… hundreds of things to see!

So if you visited last Christmas season you start wondering “Wait a minute, how do they have the space to support a much larger drive-thru experience”?

Well the second big change for 2024 is they will no longer be offering the “Dazzling District” Village Carnival experience.

While guests loved the carnival rides, food and vendors of the Dazzling District, it was clear to Dan and his team that overwhelmingly the uniqueness of the drive-thru holiday light experience is what everyone was most excited about.

So with that decision, it freed up the space which was used last year for the Carnival village and the associated parking… and allowed Glow to double the length of the signature Glow drive-thru experience!

Glow remains a local family owned business hiring almost 100 locals to not only help operate the Glow experience for the visitors, but also create all of the amazing lighting scenes all year long.

While it’s a job… it’s also a dedication of love for the team members, some who are working 15 to 18 hour days designing, creating and building all of the one-of-a-kind custom light displays that you could only find at Glow Washington Township.

And with that you can expect a lot of spooky surprises… on the Spooky Speedway at Glow!
