Elsie’s Burgers and Shakes Coming To Gloucester City’s Riverfront District

Elsie’s Burgers and Shakes Coming To Gloucester City’s Riverfront District

Elsie’s Burgers and Shakes is an Irish themed sweet shop coming soon to Gloucester City’s King Street Riverfront District.

The location for the upcoming Elsie’s is across the street from The Bank Bar, in a small building which many will remember previously as the home of New York Style Pizza.

I caught up with Gloucester City resident Richard Dolson who with his family is developing the new Elsie’s restaurant and sweet shop, who tells 42Freeway that the family’s goal is to create a small town, customer friendly dining experience.

Elsie’s will feature an old-fashioned counter serving delicious smash burgers and crazy good shakes… and the menu will also feature sweets, soups and other comfort foods.

It’s not an overly large place inside but after a few months of opening Richard expects they will be able to open up the attached garages for open-air outdoor seatings.  Elsie’s will also offer takeout and delivery service options.

It’s a great location for a small town eatery as there are considerable residential homes in the area, the popular proprietors park is close by, not to mention the students and employees of the PB Cosmetology Education Center, as well as the employees of Holt Logistics.

Locals will likely recognize Richard’s name, as he is also an active partner in Gloucester City’s Holy City Publik House on Jersey Ave.

To be clear though, for the new Elsie’s Burgers and Shakes coming to King Street, it is purely a Dolson Family business (not connected with Holy City and partners).

In fact, Richard tells me the new restaurant is named after his mother-in-law Elsie, who also was a Gloucester City resident and a beloved waitress at several area diners including Gateway and Brooklawn.

Construction crews have been working on the King Street building for several weeks and months now, and the opening date is getting close…  Richard tells me they hope for an opening date in May.

If you want to get a preview of Elsie’s, on Saint Patrick’s Day (Monday March 17th), Elsie’s will be providing the desserts for the Elizabeth’s Ballroom’s Saint Patrick’s Day event which features the Broken Shillelaghs. $20 cover includes entertainment all day, soft drinks and buffet. Cash bar. See Facebook event or HappeningNext.com for details

And of course 42Freeway will be back in May for the opening of Elsie’s, to get the preview look and experience of Elsie’s Burgers and Shakes.
