A Grocery Outlet Bargain Market location for Deptford, NJ is expected to see full construction start in November, with a planned opening of April 2025.
Of course in any construction project unforeseen things could impact dates, but Grocery Outlet has been very good with their timelines at other South Jersey new stores… so let’s just say “an expected Spring 2025 opening”
As 42Freeway first reported in April of this year, Grocery Outlet is coming to the “Forman Mills” shopping center at Clements Bridge and Hurffville Roads, taking over an empty unit which was previously AC Moore. Joann Fabrics is on the other side of the upcoming Grocery Outlet.
Earlier this year I saw some activity within the Deptford space but I believe that was just the creation of a wider garage door opening in the rear wall. While I’m not certain of this point, based on the timing of that effort I would imagine that it was something the landlord did as part of the lease signing agreement, and the upcoming larger interior build out is likely being done by Grocery Outlet.
If you are unfamiliar with the brand, Grocery Outlet is a discount food retailer who through opportunistic buying offers quality products at significant discounts, while also providing a full grocery shopping experience… all within the store’s “smaller than a supermarket” footprint.
Grocery Outlet is on a big growth spurt across the country and has absolutely targeted South Jersey and the Philadelphia market as one of its key new markets.
Grocery Outlet opened their first New Jersey location just two years ago (2022) in Delran.
It seems that location may have been open to test out the concept in South Jersey after a break of almost two years… The last 12 months has seen several locations open.
In December of last year a Grocery Outlet opened in Rio Grande (Cape May County).
Earlier this year they opened a location on Cross Keys Rd. Gloucester Township (Sicklerville) which was a smart reuse of a former freestanding Rite Aid store.
Mays Landing soon followed.
Just last month Grocery Outlet opened their first Gloucester County location in Gibbstown NJ situated in a shopping center which is right off of Route 295. The space was previously a ShopRite supermarket which was subsequently divided into three different units (and includes a new Dollar Tree)
A Vineland Store has also been in the works, but I have to check on its status
Grocery Outlet – Big Deals in a Community Store
With multiple stores opened in South Jersey, area shoppers are getting a chance to see what Grocery Outlet is all about.
One thing I really like about the culture of the company is that each location has its own locally based owner/operators who are encouraged to interact with the customers and the community, with the local owners making their own decisions regarding product mix and pricing.
As an example, about a week ago the Gibbstown location posted on their Facebook page an image of “Uncrustables” frozen sandwiches stocked up on the shelves with the caption “Gibbstown, you asked for them, and they’re back by popular demand”
it’s nice that while the company has over 500 locations they have created a business model where the local customers can actually communicate suggestions and ideas to the local management team, and not only get results, but also receive very clear feedback. Try that at a Walmart grocery store!
As mentioned they call their discount model “opportunistic buying”. Their team is constantly working with product manufacturers and distributed companies to find the best deals… and the savings are then passed on to customers.
The brand also offers a variety of special discount options including their power wall which is a dedicated space at the front of the store where the best deals are presented. These are typically special buys that last only until that product sells out.
They also have circulars which showcased the best deals which are available in all of their stores, And signing up for their e-mail notifications we’ll get you first “dibs” when the latest deal hits the shelves!
