Brown’s Shoprite Acquiring Three Stores, Including Mullica Hill ShopRite

Brown’s Shoprite Acquiring Three Stores, Including Mullica Hill ShopRite

Westville headquartered Brown’s ShopRite (with a South Jersey location in Brooklawn), has agreed to acquire Ammons ShopRite… adding three stores to the Brown’s Family including the Mullica Hill ShopRite.

A big thanks to a 42Freeway reader who brought this to my attention.  A quick Internet search shows that a January 20th press release confirms the plans for the acquisition. (Food Trade News)

The transaction is slated to close in late March of this year, so for right now things still continue to operate as they have.

ShopRite of Mullica Hill will soon join the Brown’s Super Stores Family

Brown’s Super Stores currently operates 11 grocery stores, with 9 ShopRites and two Fresh Grocers. Only one of those existing locations is located in New Jersey, which is the Brooklawn ShopRite.

Brown’s Superstores also last year acquired the five-store Philadelphia based specialty food merchant DiBruno brothers… an iconic name in Philadelphia known for their selection of cheeses and more.

ShopRite of Brooklawn is currently the only South Jersey location for Brown’s Super Stores. They will be adding Mullica Hill

Interestingly, despite the larger store presence in Pennsylvania… the headquarters for Brown’s Super Stores is right in Westville NJ on Delsea Drive, very close to the Rt 295 exit and not too far from the Westville Lake

The Brown’s Super Store company was founded by 4th generation Philadelphia grocer Jeff Brown and today employs more than 2,300 associates.  Jeff Brown also ran in the most recent Philadelphia Mayoral election.

With the acquisition of the Ammons Supermarkets, this will add three ShopRite locations to the Brown’s Family portfolio….  totaling 14 supermarket locations.  As mentioned, this will add their second South Jersey location with the Mullica Hill store. The other two acquired ShopRite locations are in Philadelphia; Aramingo Ave. and Bridge & Harbison,

The Mullica Hill supermarket originally opened as a Stop & Shop store, and in 2007 the Ammons family took over the Mullica Hill location, converting it to a ShopRite.

This news is somewhat early in the process (which doesn’t “close” for likely 6 more weeks), so there are no real details on what changes (if any) would take place at the Mullica Hill ShopRite.

Honestly I have not been in the Mullica Hill ShopRite to even understand the variations between theirs and the Brown’s implementation!  I do see Brown’s offers their “Chef Market” which is where they create high-end gourmet meals from chef inspired recipes and I would imagine Brown’s unique features such as that would be implemented eventually in Mullica Hill.
