Boswood Bagels Is Open!  Chews Landing Road Gloucester Township

Boswood Bagels opened this morning in Gloucester Township, located on Chews Landing Road in a new small strip stores to the left of the Chews Landing ShopRite.

Featuring a unique artisan bagel that is intially prepared in a traditional “hole in the center” style, when baked that hole fully closes up giving the bagel a dinner roll look to it… perfect for sandwiches or a delicious schmear of flavored cream cheese.

My visit this enter morning found Boswood to be “hopping” with customers who were excited to try the new artisan bagel shop!

Boswood bagels are available in a variety of flavors including Plain, Poppy, Blueberry, Parmesan Asiago, Spicy Everything and more…  as well as 11 varieties of flavored cream cheese including Honey Fig & Pistachio, White Truffle, Vegan Plain and more!

Sandwiches are a key part of the Boswood menu, starting with the classic meat, egg and cheese varieties… as well as signature open-face sandwiches which in eight different options feature innovative recipes such as “The Wyatt”, which is a Chocolate Chip bagel, with seasonal jam, prosciutto, shredded asiago cheese and a balsamic glaze.

Boswood Artisan Bagels are priced at $3 ($22 a dozen), “Meat, Egg & Cheese” bagel sandwiches $10.

The building where Boswood is located was previously home to Edlen meats.   New ownership took over the building and divided the former butcher shop into four new units, joining Villa Rosa Pizza (With Glen Oaks Liquors on the far right). Last month I wrote about the opening of Fruiggie Juice and Bowls which is located directly next door!

Boswood Artisan Bagels

Bosswood Bagels is the brainchild of local owner Kimberly C… who at her website shares the history of the family and her bagel skills, which come together to explain her opening Boswood Bagels as well as the name!

Both Kimberly and her husband were born and raised in Gloucester Township, and graduated from Highland High School in 2010.

After graduating college their careers led them to the New England area where Kimberly started a career in the food and beverage industry, including working as Operation Manager for a four-diamond boutique hotel.

As the family grew, adding two young children…  the couple decided to come back closer to family in New Jersey and relocated back to Gloucester Township.

So with Kim freshly relocated to Gloucester Township, but this time with new food & hospitality skills and looking for an opportunity again in her industry… she chose to create her own opportunity!

Which led to the opening of Boswood Bagels.

And the name?  Recognizing how how her own history and life experiences have combined to bring her to the point of opening a bagel shop, Kim decided to represent all facets in the name… Boswood is the combination of Boston and Blackwood.

Boswood Bagels Opening Day

Two days ago Boswood Bagels announced at their Facebook page that Friday morning was their opening day. It seems word got out quickly as my 10:00 AM visit found me walking into a very crowded bagel shop, with MANY customers eager to order and try the new bagels.

I met a variety of interesting people while waiting, including several family members who were very excited for their Niece Kim, and having a great time taking photos and interacting with customers such as myself.

I also chatted with a few 42Freeway fans, including Kyle from Laurel Springs and The Original Banana Company.   Kyle shared with me that he had known Kim and her bagels for a while now as she originally started out selling her bagels at the Laurel Springs Night Market, which is run by Kyle and his family business. Kyle was one of several who encouraged Kim to open her own brick-n-mortar bagel shop.

I ordered several bagels including a blueberry as well as asiago parmesan.

The recipes for the open face speciality sandwiches looks amazing but I chose to go classic with a sausage, egg and cheese on the asiago parmesan bagel.

Boswood Bagels are very tasty … with a slight amount of chew that you expect from a good bagel.

The unique preparation of the bagel with the closed-in hole was perfect for the sandwich… delicious and functional as hot molten cheese doesn’t seep out through the top center of the bagel!

The sign on the front door shows they are open six days a week, 6am to 3pm… and closed on Mondays.
