Azul Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Bar is open in Winslow Township on Williamstown Road, taking over a large restaurant property which previously was the Winslow Family Diner.
Still featuring the three large dining room spaces, the new owners has completely restyled the restaurant interior adding a festive Mexican décor of bright colors and wall murals, as well as an all new menu where EVERYTHING is made in-house, including the tortillas.
One of the more significant design changes is the removal of the front diner counter, which has been replaced with a large hot buffet table… although the buffet offering is “coming soon”.
The restaurant also includes TWO bars with the one in the front main dining area fully restyled into a Mexican outdoor plaza theme and offering a significant selection of tequilas and other adult beverages. This bar features television and about 6-8 barstools.
The second bar is in the rear dining room which on busy weekends could be used for the restaurant crowd, but is a perfect match for the more private rear dining room space which is an excellent choice for private events and banquets.
While this exciting restaurant is completely new to the area, there’s likely some familiarity to the local community as Azul Tequila was developed by same family who operate the nearby El Mercadito Food Market and Restaurant just minutes away.
For Azul Tequila, beyond the beautiful restaurant and more comfortable seating options, the family was able to expand the menu significantly offering a range of menu price points from casual street tacos up to premium steak options including filet mignon and tomahawk steaks!
Azul Tequila also includes some classic diner favorites in a secondary menu. Opening at 7:00 AM for a more traditional breakfast menu offering, you’ll also find burgers, cheesesteaks, deli sandwiches/clubs and more.
For today’s opening day they are offering an extra 5% off of everyone’s check (Monday Dec 2, 2024).
Azul Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Bar
I stopped in today at Azul Tequila for a delicious lunch and to check out the fully completed restaurant… of course so that I can share the experience with readers!
This wasn’t my first visit inside the restaurant as over the last few weeks I’ve stopped in twice previously, meeting up with General Manager Yasmin who gave me the early details on the restaurant’s plans… but we decide to wait for opening day to share more with the readers.
As mentioned they have fully remodeled the interior of the restaurant with brighter colors, new graphics and murals as well as other changes throughout the space.
As soon as you enter into the large lobby area you’ll see that the all of the walls are painted with beautiful murals depicting different Mexican scenes.
Walking into the front main entrance where the Hostess stand is, likely the first thing grabbing your attention is that the front counter area is no longer there… with the buffet station in its place.
To the left are a variety of booth seating options, again fully styled with a bright and festive Mexican theme, including in interesting and attractive overhead pergola-like structure.
The right-side room also features murals on the walls and the attractively upgraded bar.
I took a seat on the left side booth dining space.
Azul Tequilla has an innovative menu idea where you are handed an iPad to browse the menu which is broken out into multiple categories offering clear descriptions and bright photographs.
My order was served with a complimentary toasted bread appetizer with three Mexican sauces which ranged from a cooler taste to a more spicy “oh, I wasn’t expecting that heat at the end” flavor.
I also ordered a queso dip appetizer with tortilla chips… absolutely delicious with a perfect cheesy taste on an extra crispy tortilla.
For my lunch main entree I was tempted by all the amazing and innovative food options, and kept it more traditional ordering a chicken burrito which was served with a side of rice.
You could taste the freshness in every bite of the burrito with delicious grilled chicken and perfectly seasoned rice.
To wash all that down of course I had to try a Margarita (twist my arm)… absolutely delicious and refreshing!
I’ll be back again soon with my wife for an authentic Mexican dinner… and more refreshing margaritas!
Azul Tequila in Winslow Twp opens at 7am each morning. Monday-Thurs they close at 10pm, Friday and Saturday closing at 11pm, and on Sundays they close at 9pm
