Remodeling has started on a new AutoZone store to be located on Hurffville Rd (Route 41) in Deptford, in the large building which sits in front of Home Depot.  Area residents know it as the “Foot Action” building, which at 17,000 square feet seemed very large for a shoe store… and it never really flourished selling shoes, to the extent that it sat empty for several years.

Earlier in the year the building was sold to the Wright Development company, who in internet searches I could see they were a developer of AutoZone stores and other properties, but I wasn’t clear on the final plans until just seeing the sign on the building.

Several other AutoZone stores have opened up in the  42Freeway region, including Blackwood-Clementon Road in Gloucester Township and Route 42 in Turnersville.

As I mentioned, the store seemed large for a shoe store, and it may be large for an auto parts store…  but too early to tell if AutoZone will be taking over the whole building or just a portion.

This is more good news for the business climate along Rt 41 (Hurffville Rd) in Deptford, as not too far away construction has started on the first of 2 new hotels, and the Freeway Diner property has signed Starbucks to lead the redevelopment of that property.
