The Winslow Township Zoning Meeting on August 9, 2017, approved a major site plan and variances for the construction of an Aldi supermarket at 500 Berlin-Cross Keys Road. The cross street at the intersection is known as Williamstown-Erial Rd/Chews Landing. This intersection also has a Taco Bell under construction, a new Autozone store, and the Wawa was recently remodeled.
The location for the new Aldi Supermarket puts it behind the recently developed retail stores; Panera Bread, Wendy’s and Autozone.
A 42Freeway reader had tipped us to these plans many months ago, but I didn’t want to post until I had something more concrete… and I’ve been checking the town Meeting Minutes regularly.
This article’s featured image is a Google Maps satellite image showing the available property located behind these stores. It is not clear at this time how much of that property will be used for the new Aldi Supermarket. The Winslow Township Website does list a variety of documents for this project but we could not locate any drawings.
So the interesting twist on this news, is that this intersection is already full of Supermarket offerings. Two long-term supermarkets, Acme and Shop-rite, both sit at the same intersection. Coming soon to the area, LIDL, which is more closely aligned as an Aldi competitor, is planned for property next to the Acme. In a few short years, this little intersection could offer FOUR Supermarket options!
Meanwhile in Deptford….
