A Chipotle boom is taking place in the 42Freeway area, with another one proposed for Blackwood-Clementon Road, at the site of the former Denny's Restaurant. The Denny's building would be demolished to make way for a new building, which will have space for a future second retail client.
The October 22nd Monroe (Williamstown) Township Planning Board meeting will be reviewing a request to open a Medical Cannabis dispensary on the Black Horse Pike at the Berlin-Cross Keys Rd intersection, on the left side of the building which also houses Tires Plus. This building sits at the front of Sam’s Club.
The proposal comes with no site plan changes and they will be utilizing the shared 40 parking spots. The Monroe Planning Board documents state this is a minor site plan approval, seemingly driven by the need to change it’s retail classification from “Starbucks and Verizon Store, to medical cannabis dispensary”.
While this is a prime location in the 42Freeway area based on the high volume of traffic, the intersection has experienced setbacks with the TD Bank recently closing and the large drug store building across the street has been closed for several years.
The company behind this dispensary is “Acreage CCF”. Acreage is a larger cannabis company who just this year closed on a deal to buy New Jersey’s Compassionate Care Foundation (hence the CCF). According to that press-release, Acreage currently has dispensaries on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, and Egg Harbor. They also have a large indoor cultivation facility in Egg Harbor, and it seems they are the company behind the plans to develop the massive indoor greenhouses in Mantua as marihuana grow facilities (that Mantua project was listed as High Street, but news articles indicate they are one in the same company as Acreage. It gets a little confusing)
