Tommy’s Tavern + Tap Cherry Hill Is Open!  Scratch-Made Goodness with 2 Bar Areas
Reading Time: 5 minutes

Tommy’s Tavern + Tap is a New Jersey based family-owned restaurant group who just opened their 11th location… the latest is in Cherry Hill in the Market Place at Garden State Park center.

The “Wegmans” Shopping Center location on Route 70 was previously home to a Houlihan’s which closed back in January of 2023.  42Freeway broke the news of this new Tommy’s Tavern location back in May of 2023.

Tommy’s Tavern + Tap is an upscale yet casual restaurant and bar featuring a delicious menu of scratch-made food, where the family owned and operated culture and mindset is found throughout everything in the restaurant.

The menu features upscale versions of all the classic Tavern favorites and also inventive new dishes… but signature aspects to Tommy’s menu are the coal-fired oven pizzas and fresh in-house made sushi!

I stopped in earlier this week at the Cherry Hill location for the “Friends and Family” preview. The official Grand Opening was yesterday, Wednesday March 27th.

While there’s a common design style and menu to the Tommy’s Tavern restaurants, each location has unique features and size to them… somewhat due to the family’s smart growth strategy of identifying recently closed casual restaurants, and retrofitting them into the Tommy’s Tavern brand.

For the Cherry Hill location you’ll quickly realize how surprisingly large the space is… I had been told unofficially that when the building operated as a Houlihan’s, it was the largest location in the country!

And even with that being said the Tommy’s Tavern team bumped out the front of the building, creating new all-season patio spaces on either side of the front entrance.

Immediately upon entering the restaurant you notice the large rectangular main bar located in the center, surrounded by several areas of restaurant dining tables.

A second bar is tucked away to the left side which has a focus on whiskey… but also features a full beer tap system.   With its adjacent front patio seating addition the Whiskey Bar is like a “bar within a bar”!

All totaled there are 24 varieties of draft beers and 72 taps! My very unofficial count of televisions in the full restaurant space quickly got to over 45 before I lost count!

A signature aspect of the Tommy’s Tavern restaurants are the open kitchen design which is divided into 3 distinct sections; coal-fired pizza on the left side, sushi on the far right… and the larger center section is focused on the core general menu items.

For the new Cherry Hill location the open kitchen is along the left wall (just past the Whiskey Bar). Meanwhile in the somewhat recently opened Mount Laurel location, the kitchen is along the back wall.

As mentioned this location is a large restaurant, but effect use of smaller alcoves and dividers creates several dining areas… connected but separate.

There is seating immediately surrounding the main center bar, which then extends to a larger open dining area to the right side.

There is a dining alcove in the far back of the room, as well as the the two new extended all-season patio areas in the front also offer dining options away from the possibly louder main room. Plus there is additional seating in the Whiskey Bar area.

With this much space and seating options, I imagine that Cherry Hill Tommy’s could easily accommodate your own private small event… team meeting, family reunion or showers. Well, reach out to Cherry Hill management team for questions!

Tommy’s Tavern + Tap Cherry Hill: Menu

The Tommy’s Tavern _ Tap restaurant design and vibe are a huge part of the experience, but clearly the star of the show is the menu where everything is scratch-made in the restaurant, never frozen… and always fresh.

Note: Food images are from my Mount Laurel visit last year. I overbooked my schedule when I visited Cherry Hill this week and couldn’t stay long enough to try more amazing dishes.

It’s not enough to serve pizza… Tommy’s Tavern uses the highest quality San Marzano tomatoes and Grande Mozzarella, cooked in coal-fired ovens to make the most amazing artisan pizzas.

It’s not enough to serve sushi…  Tommy’s Tavern employees sushi chefs in each of the locations where the daily delivery of high quality seafood is quickly turned into sushi masterpieces, and delivered fresh to your table.

Tommy’s also features amazing versions of classic Tavern restaurant entrees such as a Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich that is hand-battered in the restaurant, and will absolutely melt in your mouth.

Or how about a steak sandwich which features an 8 oz New York Strip Steak that is hand carved right in the kitchen!

Many delicious soup choices, all of which are made from scratch in the restaurant from only the freshest high-quality ingredients!

Unfortunately for me, my visit was on a day that I overbooked so I couldn’t stay long to try out the Cherry Hill kitchen… but if you want more details on the food experience you can check out my article for the Mount Laurel location.

But don’t worry I’ll be back to visit Tommy’s Tavern + Tap Cherry Hill very soon… video maybe?!

Proud and happy staff at Tommy’s Tavern… eager to make your dining experience the best it can be!
