Just a Reminder That McMillan’s Bakery in Haddon Twp is Still Open

Just a Reminder That McMillan’s Bakery in Haddon Twp is Still Open

Beloved for generations, McMillan’s Bakery in Haddon Township is still open 6 days a week… which is something it seems many aren’t aware of after it was widely reported last fall that the building was up for sale.

I stopped in last Friday and picked up a half dozen of delicious McMillan’s donuts and a 4 pack of muffins… and then seeing a young boy in the store wearing an Eagles jersey shouting “EAGLES”, I bought him a pack of Eagles themed chocolate covered pretzels (with mom’s permission).

So it’s clearly business as usual at the Haddon Avenue bakery which has been serving delicious baked goods and more for 85 wonderful years.

I don’t typically write stories just to announce “hey this business is still open” … but it seems that after last fall every Philadelphia area media outlet reported that the building was up for sale, many lifelong customers assumed the closing was coming soon and that by now McMillan’s must already be closed, right?

I can assure you that McMillan is open and thriving!

The reality is that while yes the building is for sale and the family does plan on eventually closing the bakery, it’s business as usual at the bakery which first opened in 1929!

To be fair to the local media, within the articles they do quote the owner clarifying they are not closing yet.

“We want people to keep coming for sure because there’s no closing date and we don’t want people to think it’s happening tomorrow,” Clark (owner) explained.

But in today’s ” give me the story in five seconds” world, it seems most readers didn’t get past the headlines which put a little more focus on the (future) closing aspect than the “up for sale” reality.

Honestly, while I live-and-breath store openings and closings, even I thought the bakery had closed!  It wasn’t until I saw a Facebook post last week at the popular Haddonfield United group that I realized McMillan’s was still open!

I also learned quickly that I was not the only one confused as that FB post has over 1,700 reactions, 158 comments and 110 shares!

McMillan’s Bakery Haddon Township – 85 Year Legacy

McMillan’s made their announcement on October 29th 2024 that the building was up for sale.  I believe this was in response to others realizing a few days prior that there was a real estate sales listing for the property, and started sharing the news on the internet and in media.

The McMillan’s Facebook post starts off by explaining that they lost the family matriarch a year ago… “She was the glue that held our family business together.”

With multiple generations of the family working in the bakery the family has continued working hard to uphold the family’s legacy… but they’ve chosen to put the building up for sale

Even the Facebook post very clearly says they do not have a specific time frame for when they will be closing, and goes on to say they are hoping to stay open for as long as possible throughout the duration of the sales process.

It seems some customers though believed the bakery was closing very soon, and others thought they were closing after this last holiday season. But in my visit last weekend it was very clear that McMillan’s was very much open, and the staff on hand were confident in expecting the bakery to be open until a sale is announced.

The original Loopnet Commercial Real Estate Site listing is still online and does not indicate an
“Offer Pending” status.

But the important thing is the beloved bakery with the amazing Donuts and incredible cream filling is still open, still baking amazing things, still has that old school charm that you love and amazing employees… so just keep stopping in and buying deliciousness until they tell you that you no longer can.

At McMillan’s it’s business as usual… until they say it’s not. Follow along at Facebook.
