Insomnia Cookies has opened their latest fresh-baked cookie location in Cherry Hill NJ on Haddonfield Road. Coincidentally, this week the Company also welcomed new investment partners who state they are accelerating growth goals and looking to add 1,500 new locations in the next few years!
The new Cherry Hill location is directly next to the First Watch brunch restaurant on Haddonfield Road, in a unit that was previously a Fast Signs store. I first reported on the plans just a month ago.
This is basically off to the right side of the Wegmans grocery store, but across the street.
If you’re unfamiliar with Insomnia Cookies they are a freshly baked in-store cookie retailer who has a few extra twists over their competitors, including very late operating and delivery hours!
They offer two sizes of cookies, specialty baked items such as brownies, and a selection of ice cream which can also be paired with their fresh baked cookies to make an amazing Ice Cream Sandwich or even “Ice Cream on a Warm Brownie”
They also offer vegan and Gluten-Free options, and for larger celebrations you can even order a 6 or 10 inch cookie cake!
When visiting the Cherry Hill location be aware that at the front of the property there is limited parking options but if you continue towards the back of the property there are a considerable number of parking spots which turn turn left to a local side street (Severn Ave).
Just based on Google Maps there is likely another 50 parking spots in that back parking area, which may be needed over the next few days and weeks!
Insomnia Cookies
The unique late-night operating schedule started with the first location back in 2003, when University of Penn student Seth Berkowitz realized that he and most of his college peers where up very late each night and had few options for fresh and delicious late night snacks… and with that inspiration Seth founded Insomnia Cookies!
So even though Insomnia Cookies was founded less than 10 miles away from the new Cherry Hill location, it’s taken over 20 years for them to make this push to the South Jersey market!
Besides the extended late night hours, another aspect of Insomnia Cookies is they offer two different sizes of cookies; Classic and Deluxe.
The Classic cookies are sized like a more traditional cookie but still pack a ton of deliciousness to them. The Deluxe cookies are larger in size of course… and the category also includes brownies and other specialty products.
Honestly I think the Deluxe Insomnia Cookie is probably still slightly smaller (and priced accordingly less) than what is offered by the “other guys” who have already moved into South Jersey… which for many could be a good thing because I’ve seen comments related to the other national cookie bakeries, that some of those cookies are too large.
Insomnia Cookies can be bought in packed boxes of 6 and 12… well actually there are several options and it’s likely best to try the online menu or visit in-store.
For my visit today I bought a six pack of the classic cookies but then added in a deluxe cookie and a brownie… so they packaged my order in a larger box.
The current menu for classic cookies features 14 varieties which incudes four vegan varieties and a gluten free chocolate chip cookie.
Varieties included chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, double chocolate chunk, snickerdoodle and more.
Insomnia Cookies Growth Mode
Today, Insomnia Cookies is still headquartered in Philadelphia with a recently opened Center City headquarters and Flagship store at the corner of Broad and Chestnut.
Just two days ago, Insomnia Cookies announced that five-year partner Krispy Kreme has sold a majority stake in Insomnia Cookies to Verlinvest and Mistral Equity Partners.
While Krispy Kreme will remain a minority shareholder with approximately 34% ownership, the recent sale enabled them to achieve significant profit on their initial investment while still retaining an ownership position in Insomnia.
The Insomnia Press Release focuses on the future growth plans for the cookie baker, stating that with the new investors (ownership), Insomnia Cookies is prepared to accelerate its path towards more than 1,800 bakeries globally over the next few years… which is about 1,500 more than their current 285 locations!
I would expect over the next few years we see additional Insomnia Cookies locations opening up throughout the South Jersey area.
