Founded 20 years ago in Taiwan, 85˚C Bakery Café is under construction in Cherry Hill featuring an in-house bakery, freshly brewed Guatemalan coffee and milk tea/smoothie drinks.
Remodeling construction is well underway at the former Burger King on Haddonfield-Berlin Road at Brace Road, at the front of the large shopping center which is also home to Hung Vuong Food Market. This is the area of Winner Ford and Kaminski’s.
The location is easily accessible from Routes 295 and 70.
Neil from the popular “View From Evesham” Facebook page reached out to me today… coincidentally he was working the story also, and heard from 85˚C that they expect to open in two months.
85˚C Bakery Café was founded in 2003 when the founder visited a cafe in a five-star hotel. While he enjoyed the gourmet pastries and drinks, he realized that the prices were set way too high for people to enjoy just in their casual day. His goal was to create a cafe that provided premium coffee and in store freshly baked pastries, breads cakes and more… at an affordable price.
The bakery cafe takes its coffee as serious as its fresh baked goods… the name 85˚C comes from the temperature that their espresso coffee is brewed at, which they believe is the ideal temperature
With more than 1,000 locations worldwide, Cherry Hill is the first location on the US East Coast for 85˚C Bakery Café.
A press release from last year states that the market demographics of the Township as well as the many cultural food options in the shopping center (including Hung Vuong Food Market) made this is an ideal opportunity for their first entry into the East Coast.
They are currently looking for additional locations throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
It appears that 85˚C Bakery Café has plans for an even bigger US expansion as in 2021 they opened up their “At Home” online ordering website, as well as a central home base kitchen in Dallas. In 2022 they opened a new distribution center in California.
In my Cherry Hill visit this morning I saw they had already changed up the outer facade of the building… you won’t even recognize it from its former life!
Construction personnel were on hand focused on the building interior, which I did not peek in to see. Images online show the interiors to be beautifully designed and bright… a perfect setting to enjoy a fresh coffee, pastry or
On the front door a poster could be seen “NOW HIRING All Positions” which describes that some eligible employees are title to a full benefit package. A QR code and e-mail address are provided to submit resumes.
85˚C Bakery Café
Considering the next closest location to our area is likely Texas… I have not personally visited 85˚C Bakery Café!
From information provided online by the company and other media outlets… each location offers more than 50 varieties of pastries which are all baked in-house.
Absolutely there will be US focused pastry items such as danishes and croissants… but the real fun comes in trying some of their Asian specialty items such as Japanese milk toast, Taiwanese Taro swirl and Ube bread.
The menu is broken out into three main categories; Bread, Cake, Drink
While each location may carry about 50 different baked products at one time, in looking at the menu it appears the daily 50 is picked from more than 150 options.
The bread category features American staples such as Croissants and Apple Danishes, but also including really interesting Asian bread items.
The Cake category offers a variety of full size cakes or slices and the online menu offers amazing photos. From lemon cake, mango creme brulee and even chocolate chip cookies, to a Matcha Red Bean Roll or Mochi Egg Tart… I wonder if you could visit every day and find something new and delicious!
And for the last category “drinks” of course they have the amazing fresh coffee, but 85˚C Bakery Café also offers a full milk tea, smoothies and slushies menu.
