Glassboro's Collegetown Shopping Center transformation continues at full steam ahead, with significant progress on the new LIDL, Chipotle and Chase Bank! We stopped in on Sunday November 22nd and have a photo update for readers!
An alert reader pointed us to a new Dollar General being developed within the existing Commerce Plaza on Blackwood-Clementon Road in Gloucester Township. The location is the more recently remodeled strip mall behind TD Bank and Dunkin Donuts (Lumpy’s BBQ is also located there). Dollar General will occupy the right side of the building, which has an angled corner entrance,
We stopped by today, and took a few photos… the temporary window coverings clearly show the Dollar General logo, and we later found a job posting for the location. The front glass doors in the corner had no covering, and we could see the aluminum stud framing for some perimeter walls and offices.
We also reported recently that the older shopping center to the left of this one, is planned to have a new Giant Fitness location.
There are Dollar Generals all around the Blackwood area, including one at Clementon Park just 2 miles away, and a brand new building Dollar General on the Black Horse Pike just three miles away. Looking at Google Maps, in a 3 mile radius of this new store there are SIX Dollar Generals, plus a new one planned for Washington Township at 5 pts.
A few years ago it seemed Convenience/Gast Stations were the big wave through our area, and its clear that for 2020 the major push is all about the Dollars… Dollar General and Dollar Tree.

No word on an opening date of this new Dollar General.
