The store signage may not be up yet, but Ocean State Job Lot discount retailer in Deptford, opens in One Week! The official day is Friday November 20th! But be on the lookout for a possible quiet pre-opening on Thursday.
OSJL is taking over the former Toys R Us building across from the Deptford Mall (in line with Macy’s), so this is a decent sized store!
Back in July we broke the news that the largest closeout retailer in the Northeast was coming to South Jersey… Deptford NJ specifically! This is an exciting addition to Almonesson Road as the Toys R Us building has sat empty just a little too long, and with the recent move of Dick’s Sporting Goods to the Deptford Mall, the neighboring old Dick’s building is now empty.
Ocean State Job Lot
Ocean State Job Lot is a discount merchandiser based out of Rhode Island (the “Ocean State”!) and they are VERY well known in New England.
Ocean State Job Lots has over 139 stores open in 9 states, and sales approaching $700 million! They offer products for Home, Outdoor, Clothing, Summer Seasonal and more!
They seem to be very printed “Flyer” oriented, and browsing through it online it reminds me of the Bradlees, Caldor, Ames days of retailing. I mean, they identify as a “closeout” retailer but its pretty clear to me they carry a consistent variety of products for the household and family.
Facebook commenters on our prior posts who have visited one of the stores, have spoken very highly of them… cleanliness and selection.

2020 has knocked the socks off of retail and Deptford has taken a few shots… but overall there are some exciting stories to tell with the opening of Ocean State Job Lots, Round 1 Entertainment Center, a new relocated Dick’s Store, a Super Wawa the way…. and more. And I don’t think we’ve heard the last of the movie theater either! What?!
