295/42 Direct Connection Update: Browning Road Temp Bridge Construction To Start This Month (June 2021)

The Browning Road temporary bridge construction effort in Bellmawr for the Direct Connection project is finally starting, as the bridge pieces are arriving any day. There is a possibility that the first section of the bridge will be “launched” mid-June!
In this post we also take a look at a May 19th letter from the NJDOT Commissioner regarding the Route 295 roadway failure

Mark from 42Freeway heads back to Bellmawr’s massive Direct Connect project, to review what has changed in the last few months.  And yes, there are new things to talk about. Bellmawr Missing Moves Project Awarded! Starts Spring 2020. $180 Million Project to Connect 42n to 295s (and back). Aerial Video!

Almost 20 years in the planning, but with the awarding of a $180 million contract in January, the long awaited Missing Moves project in Bellmawr, NJ will start construction THIS SPRING!  Literally months away!  The long awaited road will connect Route 42 North to 295 South, and of course in the opposite direction… 295 North to 42 South (and on to 55 and the AC Expressway)!

More Direct Connection Tunnel Changes: FIVE Lanes In, Merge to Four After Tunnel

The new “covered roadway” tunnel which is part of the 42/295 reconstruction project has been in action for several weeks, with 42N-295N traffic routed through it.   This weekend the second phase of the tunnel redirection went live, with the 76E (traffic from Philly) which is heading to 295N, also moving through the tunnel.   There were some commuter concerns with how lanes merged before the tunnel and would the two additional 76E lanes “fit” into the tunnel.. well NJDOT surprises us all as they do fit FIVE lanes in the tunnel. But watch out for the right side lane merge AFTER the tunnel.
