Back in May 2020, New Jersey Governor Murphy approved a large toll increases for the 3 main New Jersey roadways, two of which are key paths to the Jersey Shore and the Wildwoods.  The increases go into effect this Sunday 9/13/2020.

The toll increases are in the 30% range.  A good example for those traveling from the west (Philadelphia), the AC Expressway’s Egg Harbor Toll Plaza will increase from $3 to $4.25!  That’s a hefty increase!  And if you travel the AC Expressway, you are paying that BOTH WAYS!.   And the other .75 tolls on the AC Expressway jump up to $1.25!  Smaller exits in Gloucester County go from .40 to .60

An NBC10 article breaks the percentage increases as;

  • Atlantic City Expressway: 37%
  • Garden State Parkway: 27%
  • New Jersey Turnpike: 36%

The full list of AC Expressway exits and toll increases are found on this PDF.

It’s clear the Governor recognizes they role these roads play for vacation travelers by scheduling the increase to start the weekend after Labor Day.  But for many New Jersey residents, these roads are more than just vacation routes as many 100s of thousands use them every regularly in their normal commutes to home and work, and they will really be feeling the sting!
