Created by Celebrity Food Network chef Guy Fieri, Chicken Guy! restaurant opened a new location this summer at Resorts Casino Atlantic City… right on the boardwalk!
Knowing how much the 42Freeway readers appreciate hearing about “another chicken restaurant”, when I found myself in Atlantic City earlier this week I had to give it a try.
I’ve actually been looking forward to this because the initial launch of the brand was wrapped around a one season competition reality show with Guy Fieri as the host, where the prize for the winner was to own one of the Chicken Guy restaurants!
My wife and I are Food Network fanatics and watched several episodes of “Guy’s Chance of a Lifetime” season … and the winner earlier this year did get to open his Chicken Guy which is located in the King of Prussia Mall.
The new Chicken Guy restaurant at Resorts is located on the boardwalk, literally the very last retail unit on the left of the building which previously was home to a surf shop.
The Chicken Guy branding on the front of the restaurant features bright red panels with bold white lettering and a catchy logo… And if that isn’t enough to grab your attention a life-sized photo of Guy Fieri is also on the front wall.
Like other chicken restaurants in the category, Chicken Guy focuses on in-house made fresh chicken tenders which could be ordered as a platter or a sandwich.
Chicken Guy does not bill themselves as a Nashville hot chicken spot, although you can order their tenders and sandwich with Guy’s signature hot seasoning.
While they stick with a simple menu, there are some unique aspects to Chicken Guy as you can order the chicken tenders as crispy fried or grilled. I don’t know of other brands in the category offering grilled.
They also offer sandwich recipes that are little more unique such as the B.L.A.T which offers bacon, lettuce and tomato with the addition of an avocado crema!
The sauces also offer some distinctive flavors including Garlic Parmesan, Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ, Buttermilk Ranch, Sweet and Sour and more.
Well the other unique thing about the Chicken Guy in the Resorts Casino (and Harrah’s at the Marina) is since they are in a casino, there is a small bar in the chicken restaurant!
It just happened to be happy hour when I showed up so being the consummate reporter and wanting to share the whole experience with readers… I ordered a refreshing adult beverage.
Inside the restaurant is somewhat narrow and deep with the bar and ordering counter located near the front, and then extending further back with additional seating.
They’ve done a really good job with carrying the branding throughout the restaurant with the distinctive chicken logo placed in several places, and interesting lighting across the ceiling.
A large portion of the wall has the same “bright red with white lettering” design featuring another life-size print of Guy Fieri. It’s a little bit corny but you know what… people are absolutely going to stop there and take a selfie with Guy and share on social media.
As mentioned there are several sandwich varieties including the Classic, the B.L.A.T. and even a Buffalo Mac and Cheese sandwich!
The website features limited time offers including a Pepperoni Chicken Parm Sandwich, which had I seen while in the restaurant I may have given it a try.
I thought it was the smart move to stick with the OG which featured the crispy chicken tenders and the OG Sauce on a bun.
I’ve written about a lot of different chicken places and everyone asks me which one is better. I appreciate folks wanting my opinion but honestly I don’t know… they are all tasty to me.
I will say the Chicken Guy tenders were nicely prepared with a noticeable crispy outer crunch… and the special sauce was different than the other restaurants.
It seems all of the Chicken Tender places are offering a special sauce that’s somewhat based on Thousand Island dressing recipe. This is a similar plan with Chicken Guy but there was something different about the flavor that I liked… it had more of an acidic vinegary kind of flavor to it, which is likely the pickle juice that is part of the sauce recipe.
Overall it was a good sandwich priced around $13, which included two chicken tenders.
As I mentioned there’s another location in Atlantic City at the Harrah’s Casino… so they must be doing well if they saw the value in opening a second one.
Honestly the boardwalk location is a pretty good spot for them and it should draw a good customer base for most of the year… Plus it’s located next to the Wet Willies Frozen Daiquiri Bar.
I think a Wet Willie’s Video should be part of my next Atlantic City visit!
